Hi everyone - Can someone offer their thoughts on foreign word .coms? I own a few of these and I am wondering about their worth and HOW I should sell them. For instance, are there any foreign auction boards, or should I try to offer these to them directly to people who own *word*.de domains?

For instance, below are three German words I own:
Gemaakt/com (Made)
Malerarbeiten/com (Painting)
Rettet/com (Save)

These three words appear millions of times on web pages, and I recall that the first one had some decent keyword search numbers on google.com. But, I am wondering if I should be doing my analysis a bit different on these, getting data from German sources (google.de?).

Also, can anyone hazard a guess as to the value of these foreign .com domains compared to the .de version?

I have seen some varying opinions on this, some people saying they are total crap, but I have also seen some fairly big sales at Sedo (although quite rare). I did get some verbal guidelines from an auction site sales rep who said that espanol.com may be worth 10% of spanish.com, and 50% of espanol.es (this was a general guideline, not specific to this example).

So, any thoughts as to what these are worth? I was born in Europe, and I have relatives who speak a number of languages, so I am considering asking them to help me with the foreign domain game, once I get a little better grasp of it, anyway.

'Gemaakt' (=made) is a Dutch word.

Thanks, you are absolutely correct. I think made in German is gemacht. Google reports 60.5K global searches per month on "gemaakt" in Dutch. Also, there are 26M search results.

By contrast the German word for Painting has 33K searches and 776K results.

I recognize that the market for Dutch domains is much smaller than German domains, but I wonder if these higher search and usage volumes compensate. Any thoughts?

'Dutch'.com's -next to .nl- are very common in The Netherlands :)

The exact Global Montly Search Volume for 'gemaakt' = 720 according to G. But, the word is easy to remember. Perhaps your best bet would be a Dutch Webmaster forum, there are a few of them out there.

Rettet/com (Save)
Rettet does not mean "Save". It's the singular third person form, or the plural second person form, or the plural imperativ, of retten = to rescue.

It could mean "(s/he) rescues", "(you all) are rescueing", or "rescue! (to a group)".

I don't see any value here, esp. because in Germany .de domains are much more popular for German words. But even rettet.de would be worthless (and it's registered by some Dubai company who probably didn't know better).

And, btw:

Malerarbeiten/com (Painting)
Malerarbeiten means paintwork, not painting. But still the best of the three domains, and the only one that's worth the reg fee imho.
