The Georgia Aquarium is opening up this year in Atlanta.

I donated the following domains to them:

GeorgiaAquarium.org - this is the main one they use - the other redirect.
GeorgiaAquarium.net
AtlantaAquarium.org
AtlantaAquarium.net
GAAquarium.com
GAAquarium.net
GAAquarium.org

The Georgia Aquarium is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization so I want to write the donation off my taxes.

What do you think a fair value is?

I would suggest having them give you a letter with the value they place on the names. To be the "devil's advocate" here (aka the IRS), it's really only of value to the aquarium on a legal basis, other than reg fee. If they are gracious and highly value the domains, they would likely be willing to place a value on them for you.

Reg Fee only?

The Georgia Aquarium will be one of the largest aquariums in the world. It is a gift from Bernie Marcus (cofounder of Home Depot)

Letter (with value) has already been requested.

The Director of the Aquarium about had a heart attack when I told him I would donate them.

Agreed with Ethan,

As you said : The Georgia Aquarium is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization so I want to write the donation off my taxes.

So thus, the domains have not much worth in the business world.

However i would contact them and get them to make the first offer :)

I"m not saying they are valued at get fee in a true market. I'm saying that's what an IRS agent would argue if you were audited, since that's what you paid. there is no reliable and recognized "appraiser", so the only reliable appraisal would be what the aquarium themselves would have paid for them. Now that they have them, it could be argued that anyone else would be a cybersquatter and they would be valueless to the the market.

Best thing is to get the value letter from them before the transfer.

reg. fee each -- It would be higher if you donated the .com to them.

Don't find it good to try earn some $$ from a non-profit organisation in my view. Reg fees.

Flora.

FYI, the Georgia Aquarium told me $5000 each.

Thats the only buyer that would pay that kind of price for them;

The price given by domainers here (i presume) are wholesale prices.

Well done on the big money :tu:

But me personally, i would have given them away as they are a 'non-profit orginisation'

Just IMO

Thanks

Tom

From what he is saying, he did - he just wants the tax relief on what they would have been prepared to pay :)
