We've decided to invest into 7 .US states:

New-Hampshire.us
New-Jersey.us
New-Mexico.us
North-Dakota.us
South-Carolina.us
South-Dakota.us
West-Virginia.us

What do you think?

We generally don't like hyphen domains but considering the non hyphen versions are either worth $XX,XXX, owned by Neustar or both - these are the next best thing, especially for development / SEO.

So what would you do with them?

I'm fond of geo cctld. I think this is the entended for the extensions.
I've also been picking up geo dot us names. We need google to put
out the dot US welcome matt then we'll se the values jump.

I like them,

I dont think the hyphen makes any differance as like you noted the others are mostly owned by the states/neustar.

If i owned them i dont think i'd let either of them go for uner $4-5K myself, long hold but easy to use, easy to develop.

So theres not alot of them in the wild.

nice names!

These are superb names, IMO, especially since they're all 2 word states, and as such work fine with the dash.

I would suggest looking into setting up a (Wordpress based) mini site with a decent geo template and a few plugins (classified ads would be good) and also automated news aggregation with news stories relevant to the state. Add things like a business directory (again, using a good WP plugin - either paid or free) and info about the most popular government services.... all this to drive some organic traffic to your site...

That will help showcase the business potential of each name to potential buyers - and also possibly give you some revenue from targeted affiliate programs (travel, hotel, ebay, etc) while you hold the names.

Good luck with 'em and don't sell low in these economic times.

Geo .US Discussion and Showcase Thread.

As we all know geo .US is a big category all by itself and it surely deserves some special attention considering that geo domains are perfect match for .US .

This thread is meant for .US fans to discuss and showcase their geo and geo related domains and websites (minisites) in order to benefit from each others knowledge and experience, constructive criticism is allowed, but if you already know that you donโ€™t like .US then please stay out of this thread. :)

Thanks, ojohn

Visit + Geo .US

What do you all think about Visit + Geo domains, I registered these a while back (I am in the process of making them into mini sites).

VisitAtlanticCity.us

VisitAustin.us

VisitLosAngeles.us

VisitManhattan.us

VisitNewOrleans.us

VisitKeystone.us

VisitBigSur.us

VisitSantaFe.us

VisitSmokyMountains.us

VisitYosemite.us

VisitCapeCode.us

Great thread.

What's everyone's opinion about citystate.us - for example, "phoenixarizona.us" or "portlandoregon.us" Has anyone had success developing one or more of these names and getting a good PR?

If the City name is already taken then CityState,US or CityST,US might be worth getting for development considering that you might still have a chance of getting some traffic through search engines or direct type-ins. The only way to know for sure is to develop a few domains in this format and see how they do. IMO

I hand reg'd BirminghamaAlabama.us and sold it for high $XX about 18 months ago. I just picked-up another citystate.us (a much better name than Birmingham) and I plan to develop it so see what kind of traffic I can get.

As for VistCity.us, I really like a couple of the key cities you had in the first section. VisitChicago.us, VisitAustin.us. Let us know if you can get any traffic with mini-sites.

It seems like the top 250 Cities are all taken in the CityState and CityST format, itโ€™s getting harder to hand register geo .US domains and in a way that is a good sign because it shows the increased level of popularity of .US .

Stevie, you got some nice VisitCity domains too, itโ€™s amazing that so many nice domains were available to hand register just six months ago.

I hold a few CityState.us. What are more desireable?

CitySt.us
CityState.us

Is the state abbreviation better than the full spelling?

May I use them on mine? They're not "visit" names but city states (PomonaCaliforina/us) etc.

I donโ€™t own that many domains in these formats so I havenโ€™t done that much research in this area, but if you check the google keyword tool results for the top 10 or 20 cities in both formats it seems like they are equally popular. (make sure to choose โ€œexactโ€ under match type menu)

You can also do a search at the major search engines for the top 10 or 20 cities in the following formats and compare the number of results. (use quotations)

โ€œ City State โ€œ
โ€œ CityState โ€œ

โ€œ City ST โ€œ
โ€œ CityST โ€œ

There are probably other metrics in addition to these that you can use for making a better comparison, but these are the ones that I can think of.

My City domains are mostly in the format of โ€œ Cityof โ€ฆ.. .US โ€œ , currently I am in the process of making mini sites for them and I am hoping to make them into a network that covers most of the top 250 Cities.

Stevie, I agree with your choices, I kind of thought the same way too, thatโ€™s why I got both versions. I just wanted to see what others here had to say about this.

Thanks oldtimer,

I saw the similarities and thought that "that" in it's self warranted the question. I mean to me this really separates the two visually and should reflect the value obviously. In GEO names I don't subscribe to the "shorter is better" school of thought. Any time I see a "geo" name with an abbreviation in it I seem to have to double take and make sure it's not a "hack" or "leet" name. It is almost annouying to me. But from a glance I can see PomonaCalifornia -vs- PomonaCA. California or Canada, is that a "C" or a "G" .... is there a Pomona Georgia??? :hehe:

Thanks for the input .... repped ...
