question GEO Domains

Hello,

I'd be interested in any opinions regarding GEO domains. I'm guessing that the domains would be of a higher value with the place first, followed by the noun/occupation/adjective - e.g. californiadentists.com would be more valuable than dentsistscalifornia.com.

Generally speaking would the variation in value be a huge difference? It looks like it may be from the little exercise I've just conducted on the "Valuate" website. For instance UKCasinos.com is valued at $22,000, while CasinosUK.com is valued at $730.

Has anyone had any success with selling domains with noun/occupation/adjective first followed by the place name?

Finally, I would imagine that the best way to look to sell a GEO domain (irrespective of the sequence of the words) would be by directly contacting end users. Is this the best approach?

Thanks

Regards

Frank

Thanks for the feedback @Haykay2005. I take it an "inbound enquiry" is where you haven't placed the domain for sale on any market but an enquiry came 'out of the blue' so to speak?

I never placed it in any market. A good GEO will always inbound but patience is required

Will the short forms of the country/city names work good?

I have sold several geo*service domains and have just completed a sale of $650 for a domain which I got for $80 a week ago.

Geo+service are more valuable than the reverse combination but sometimes if the keyword is good the reverse can be valuable too.

I have also sold service+domains in past if they have good demand they do sell.

What about "The" Before GEO domain ?

What about "The" in front of anything generally, not just GEO's?

It depends on the country and the city in most situations.
NY works better than the full NewYork, UK works better than UnitedKingdom.
But there are cities/countries that you just can't abbreviate or the abbreviation is not well known.
Canada = CAN So, Abbreviating Canda in domains may not always work.
The Canadian Capital city Ottawa is usually abbreviated as [Ott] that also would not work well in Domains.

So, in terms of domains, you have to go with the shorter well-known abbreviation, unless it does not make sense or not very clear to most people.

Please do you care to report the name that got sold on the sales section. Thank you

Recently got into this niche with a geo+airport domain in king. Good search volume and lots of traffic, but from what I've read geo's aren't easy to sell, what may be a no brainer to us domainers doesn't make sense to some end users...even though they are losing thousands of leads in traffic.

Geo names constitute about 60 to 75% of my sales. They are a good investment if you know which cities and keywords work. Here are a list of keywords that, in my experience, are very hot sellers.

City + Roofing
City + Plumbing, Plumber(s)
City + Photographer(s)
City + Dentist
City + Flowers
City + PestControl
City + Bikes

Now, to be clear, the value of the name will depend on what city we are talking about. I have sold many names with the keywords listed, with US cities. I usually focus on cities with at least a 200K population. Once in a while sell smaller cities names.

Your pricing will also impact how fast you sell the domain or if you ever sell it. If you happen to register TampaPlumber.com and price it at a few thousand, I doubt you will be able to sell it. You might have to sit on that name for years. Now, if you price it under $500, it would have a very high probability of selling if you offer it to end-users.

I personally love Geo domains. I've sold a few and I feel like local business people love having names that represent their business in the city they reside. I've gone through road trips and have seen UGLY long GEO domains on billboards, which means people are using them.

If the domain makes sense and if there are businesses associated with it in that particular city/community, I would buy it. Also, when I am referring to GEO domains, I stick to ONLY .com.
