Generating Inbound Weblinks

Hiya I am new to the forum and am hungry for webtips.

I am looking to increase my page ranking by increasing inbound links to my site. I have found some sites which offer link trades by pasting php or asp code into your own pages but is this a good idea, it is a con and will I be penalised by search engines?

Has anyone got any good recommendations for generating inbound links legitimately bearing in mind I am a web design company and it is difficult to get sites to add me.

i wouldn't paste links from a link trader. some of them have been banned. remember the links should be relevant too. contributing to online discussion is a good idea. you give someone some advice and receive something back. makes the world a nicer place!

You can always buy a membership at linkmarket.net for example. I think it's something aroun 20$ / year. It's a link exchange program. You can then exchange links with other web design related web site.
