Hi,
I just was looking around and I see that http://www.GeekHosting.com has been hacked. That doesn't look to good for them and it must have been just a while ago because Google still shows a different page for search results. I wonder what is happening to their customers right now.

Hacking happens and sadly enough if the right (or wrong) person wants to get in virtually nothing can stop them. There are certainly holes you can patch against script kiddies but no server is truly secure from all hackers. It appears to be back up now but I'm sure they were working on it when you made the post.

Geek hosting was not hacked. It was sold, the clients were sold to site5 i belive and the owner Mr yapodopolas ( i think, greek guy) still has the domain.

We put an offer in to buy the whole thing but apparently site5 made an offer he could not refuse. It was sold on webhostingtalk.com.

well, most of the time get hack cause of their own mistakes and careless ways ex:
is some one comes up say
[Agent]hey I'm from the FBI I have reasons to suspect that illegal
activities have underway through you server I would like your cooperations............
[moron]Yeah anything
[Agent]Give me your password so I could look at your files and logs you have stored.
[moron]sure.
and voila....
account hack....
I think this is called social engineering in hacker's terms.

GeekHosting.com is now http://www.siteocity.com

I have a site there and all seems good. A few bumpy days - that's all. :)

Wow that is a nice site but hacking happens all the time and unfortunely when there are ways to stop it, the hackers find a way to surpass it.

Well if they sold the site with a page saying "Hacked" I guess your right but I'm almost 100% positive it was hacked because it said "Hacked" with the hackers names.

With the raised awareness of lame attempts such as those, I doubt anyone would fall for that one.. It's just common sense you know..
