Gamer Commits Webcam Suicide

A 20-year-old US man is reported to have killed himself live on a webcam on Bulgarian gamers' forum www.metalgearsolid.org, according to AFP and other agencies. Mitchell "Mitch" Lee Stuekerjuergen, aka "Kuja105", reportedly swallowed antifreeze and pills "after complaining about family problems and a lack of money", forum administrator Boyan Georgiev is said to have told Bulgaria's BGNES news agency on Wednesday. Stuekerjuergen subesquently died on 4 January in hospital in Illinois.

All too often friends don't recognize when a problem is going on.. it's part of our natural defenses, to incubate ourselves from others and sometimes we are just too close to see things as they are but it's important to know the signs of depression or emotional distress and help when and if we can.

Shame that whole story was reported based on lies really. There wasn't even a webcam involved!

One thing I learned in Journalism class was "check the facts!".. seems the modern day media doesn't always adhere to that..

In any case, with any story, you'll nearly always get the "early" version and then the complete "amended" version.. it's not always the journalist's fault.. that kind of reporting can be attributed to alot of different factors.

Im sick of all this shitty media. Make me sick. They should have some consequences for all the false shit they report.

Mostly it can be attributed to lack of accountability.
With the age of electronic media growing so fast journalists will do anything they can to get the one up on the competition.
It's almost as though they are adhering to the Lyndon Johnson theory of "make the bastards deny it"

Stories, even if they are less than accurate get front page coverage so say whatever you like. When it comes time to print a retraction it usually gets printed on page 10 and no one cares anymore.

I think most suicides or potential suicides have reached the point where the only person that can help them (besides physical restraint) is themselves. By the time they've reached that point, most have had friends, relatives, and professionals that have tried... not always the case but as I've known 5 or so people who've committed suicide, I feel a bit qualified to opine on the subject.

It is really sad when things like that happen. It is sad to think that nobody was there to help him out.
