Can someone please tell me if the .us names have always been selling at these prices as listed on Galcomm? These prices have really spiked if names are really selling for these prices. Can someone clarify as I would like other opinions on the state of the .US market

People are paying very high sums at GalComm; however, GalComm's interface is quite poor and does not allow you to see what the winning bid is. In the past two weeks, I've been outbid for every domain, despite putting in some pretty high offers. That being said along with the rumor that several .com junkies (who have deep pockets) are making their way into the .us market, make your own opinion of where the .us market is heading....

Good News

I'm all for .US prices going up. This thought makes me glad I bought ccw.us for $374 a few weeks ago.

I signed up for Galcomm a few days ago but they never activated my account...I'd like to get in on the bidding action, though.

Galcomm has a poor rep for customer service as a domain catcher.
It can help if you know a Hebrew speaker willing to call them in Israel.

This worked for me as well.

Yeah, I put in pre-registration bids on some names, and when I went to check up on them, it said "bidding closed". Strange, because they just picked up these names yesterday, and they usually begin a 3 day auction 24 hours after picking them up.

Galcomm needs to be more clear in their drop catching policies and procedures. I was confused about what happens when I am the highest bidder when the domain drops. Is there then a three day auction? If so, then why do I need to be the highest bidder beforehand? A Sam Kinnison yell is warranted here.

Speaking of warranted. I visited godaddy today and found warrant.us available for reg. After ordering I received an email saying that the registration had failed. Too bad.

Back to Galcomm. If I never succeed at winning a domain there, will I get my $100 back?

From what I understand, the pre-bidding is used to guage interest in the domains for Galcomm. The more interest in the names, the more likely they'll try and devote their resources to snag them.

However, if you do pre-bid, and they do snag the name, and no one outbids you during the auction, the name is yours at the price you bid.

So be careful.

Or, as rumor has it (unconfirmed), unless they decide that the price you pre-bid is less than they think the name should have sold for, in which case they keep it

Namewinner

I miss the good old days of trusted exclusive snaps, namewinner auctions, and zero competition for niche domains. Even godaddy could be counted on for an occasional successful .com backorder for under $20. Underdog domainers, who were on the ball, had a real and substantial chance at getting good domains back then.

My fondest memory was waking up one Saturday morning to compete in a namewinner auction for an XXXX valued domain. I stopped bidding at $1,600, and quickly lost the pre-auction. The domain later dropped that afternoon as I was sulking over an espresso at a cafe up the street in SF.

I returned home later on to check the whois to see who had won the domain. My email program pinged and I saw an email from snapnames notifying me that I had won the domain. I had forgotten that I had placed an exclusive backorder for the domain months before. What a thrill that was. And it only cost me $43 through a snapnames partner (CheapSnaps).

Now look at what we have. Everyone knows about everything that is dropping, extended bidding, non-exclusive backorders, and registrars holding domains for ransom.

Ahh, the good old days.

What time is it

When Galcomm's drop reads 12:00:00 PM, what time zone is that?
