Hi folks,
I picked up futures.info today. I think it has good potential as it's a financial related domain (futures trading, options and futures, gold futures, etc.). Problem is that I am not that familiar with what .info domains are selling for. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with an opinion on what futures.info might be worth. Thanks in advance! :)

With a domain like this you are going to need to develop a highly informative site around "futures" and future trading. This will help you get into all the major search engines and increase the value of the domain.

I am not a ".info specialist", but I traded futures contracts for a major portion of my life. I am a geezer now and much more conservative (as happens with geezers), but it was sure fun back in the days when Bunky Hunt tried to corner the silver market (especially for those of us that were long contracts in a locked limit up market).

I am surprised I didn't think of that one. Was this in a drop you were watching that didn't get picked up by the major drop catchers, or did you just type it in one day and saw it was available? Regardless, it is a good find, and the .info extension is ok. I agree with the other post: develop it to raise visibility, then sell.

...sheesh... I could have sworn I checked futures.info at some point, given that the markets have been such a major playground in my life.

i think names such as your are geared towards the .info domain. For it to succeed properly, it will come done to informative content. If you have knowledge first hand, or have access to people (such as npcomlete) that have knowledge in this, you can get the site to have proper traffic. With proper traffic, will come advertisers willing to pony up.

best of luck!

This was in a drop and yes it must have been missed by the big guys!
Thanks for your input.

So it seems that the consensus is that .info domains need to be developed to be of any worth? Would that not be true of any other domain? Any rough idea of the worth as-is?

It's a great name! He wouldn't have hand regged it. Most likely drop catched or bought off someone else.

whew... thanks for answering cone10. I was a bit worried I may be losing touch with reality. Given that I have spent so much of my life in the futures market I can't imagine how I could have missed this. It would be like a person that spent their life selling dogs forgetting to check dogs.info. It looks like you picked it up in some way other than a hand reg:

I wrote my own custom drop processing program and "futures" is on my scan list. I quit processing the drops (which I did every night) after Enom's clubdrop closed and namejet started... I was just too busy to bother learning what namejet was all about (and was pis**d at enom about another auction). Yeah, I know the drop lists are available at snap and others.

The reason I say develop is that even minimal development can raise attention when getting sales. Like I said in my post above, I am not a .info specialist. If this was the .com you know it would be extremely valuable. I am guessing that the name is good for at least $XXX to $XXXX. People that play in this market have a lot of money... and spend it liberally.

Good luck on the sale!

Actally cone10 you have the best information on its worth. Does futures.info have type in traffic? (before you posted it here) More than a few hits? If it does than its value can be very good. But still its a disireable name i would think you could get $500 fliping it.

Got it through the snapnames drop/auction system. I paid good coin for it on a hunch (G note). I'm pretty sure I can recover my investment with this one.

Just stuck it on sedo.com yesterday and already had my first offer today for $500. This is very positive news. Thanks for your feedback everybody!
