I never knew .de is the second most used tld in world.Have a look into this

.com = 50,100,645 .eu = 1,511,074
.de = 9,720,156
.net = 7,470,062
.uk = 4,783,448
.org = 4,474,941
.info = 2,612,617
.nl = 1,859,732
.biz = 1,352,695
.it = 1,112,230
.be = 1,028,741

Now all these tlds are in market for some long time most of them are in business for 5+ years now if we compare .eu which is only one week old and currently increasing 3-4k every 3 hours in average i see a bright future for it. Rumours are it would be a flop these are the people with pessimist approach and are not in Europe mostly.I had doubts that it would not even cross .org or .uk but now i have started feeling like it would be closer to .de/.net some what in few years time.There are 25 eu countries and many different languages which gives new companies and individual an opportunity to get a domain in their own language "but with .eu extension" which is already occupied in their respective country tld and end of the day .eu would kept on increasing like human population it might never could touch .com but lets be optimistic and hope for bright future of .eu.That is just a newbies thaught.Please express your feelings.

my personal feeling is that .eu will rival .com in about 7-10 years time. I know some americans would disagree with this but i think it is the general concensus within Europe. I'd expect .eu to pass .info by next month and be past .uk within a year.

Thats my honest opinion but i feel that most people will disagree with this. At first i didnt like the idea of .eu but now i am growing to like it, hence my heavy spending in pool auctions at the moment (Credit card statement due 31st April :( ).

I belive in .eu domain great future and disagree with sceptic trying to say that only american .com in Europe ofen associated with USA have future...

Did anyone of them say sensible reason why is this extension really bad exept their suspicions?

And is there any more reliable source to appraice it than stats? - over 1,5 mln in 1 week....

One word more for sceptics: do not register .eu domains - we will do it :D

I agree with the sentiments expressed about. Europeans have a strong cultural affiliation and things like the adoption of the Euro and international trade laws, although difficult have been accepted, I think that .EU will be used to help solidify a brand presence for many small and and medium size enterprises. It will allow these same companies the opportunity to market across national lines and with competitive arrangements on country to country trade much like the NAFTA agreement there is low risk for a small business to branch out.

The one thing that may hinder this effort is that the EU states only have 486 million people where the .com appeal is to 6 billion people. I don't think that .EU will have as much universal appeal but I think that it will be heavily used in the near future and become a major impact for those companies and individuals in the EU.

I think investing in .EU will pay dividends, but I am curious how many of these registrations were bought for the sole intent of reselling them for profit, a lot of speculators out there not looking to develop sites but make a quick buck. Just wish I had a little more foresight to get in on the ground level.
