We can agree .com has value, but that alone doesn't mean you can register anything and think it has value. Same with .us....Domain names in .us should be a couple notches better than what you can find in .com because their are way more opportunities available to get something great at the left of the dot.

.org is a global extension where as .us is mostly local with the exception of hacks, and in some cases .us is used to target users outside the us leveraging the us brand/extension.
Does an extension have value is a question for new gtlds as cctlds are already established firmly.
