:hi:-, I am new to graphics and sorta new to web design but want to make my pages look cooler. Are there any freeware or student versions of programs that I can try out? I have photoshop at school and like it but don't want to buy it atm.

Also, are there any flash programs that are freeware or shareware?

I am running Linux and Windows so either platform program is fine. Thanks for your time :)

You can download trial versions of most professional software. For example you could try out photoshop and then the Adobe Creative Suite after that.

http://www.adobe.com/products/tryadobe/main.jsp

Also, since you are a student, most also offer discounted licenses. I know both Adobe and Macromedia (which is now owned by Adobe) do.

You can also use GIMP. The 1.x versions were very powerful, but the interface was not that intuitive. However, I have heard they have made much improvents in the 2.x versions. You can get more information at their website: http://www.gimp.org/

ty for the replys, will download photoshop today most likely. I downloaded GIMP as well last night on XP and Fedora and like it alot. I just hate using trials because I know they will end and it makes me have to work on a deadline so to speak :( . Thanks again, if you know of any more plz post :) .

theres also something called .net paint or vb.net paint
it's a program (freeware) to imitate photoshop build on the .net platform.
it's not bad but it's hard to use imho

Gimp is good, but if you can afford Photoshop get that. Personally Freeware can match the big stuff.

Gimp is a bit hard to use if you are used to photoshop, but still does the job :).
