I've heard of this on another site. It seems they're doing it in other countries as well. It's not a bad idea, they help get business started and then later provide them with paid services when they've established themselves. A smart move on their part in my opinion.

They have done this in the UK with http://www.gbbo.co.uk but the website builder they offered was total ****, they just bought up some WYSIWYG trash and didn't fix it.

But the good news is, as with other google products, you can export your data so you could use it later for a grownup website.

Oh they have used Yola on their UK version. Yola is quite famous for their WYSIWYG.

They are doing this in Kenya too, offering a free domain and website at http://www.kbo.co.ke

But it seems their business practices there are outside what a lot of people consider acceptable

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/0...ing_startup_google_false_collaboration_claim/

Google has been accused of "fraudulently" accessing a rival Kenya-based business listings database and then attempting to sell the internet giant's competing GKBO product to that customerbase.
