Are templates worthwile using, at least while I am trying to get things set up?

If so, does anyone know any good places that I could get ready made templates to download?

I find that templates are worth using, because they give you a basis to work from and therefor save you a lot of time.

I create templates if you're interested. Been doing so since 1998 and every one is unique. Depends on what kind of style you're looking for though. Mine are more artsy than the more modern ones you see on the web these days. > TheNetter.com

Templates are great for shortening the site development process. I tend to purchase expensive templates (like from templatemonster.com) so as to ensure that only a few sites will look like mine. With free templates, your'e bound to see the same look duplicated across hundreds of sites.

I agree armstrong.

Fugue - great site and really nice templates - very original. It does only seem to serve a niche market, however. If I ever need a template for any of my clients that fit the niche, I'll be around.

I think templates are worth it.. they give you a great place to start. It does seem like everytime I work with a template I end up doing significant customization, so I don't really worry about out sites being "similar". I do believe starting with a template saves time and $$ in the long run.
