Found This In My Laundry Basket This Morning

I still had a few clean clothes in the laundry basket this morning and reached in to take them out when I heard this hit the bottom of the basket... I'm not sure if you can get the scale, but it was pretty darn big (over 2 inches or so)! I looked on the web for common Missouri spiders and couldn't find any that looked like this...

EDIT: Found it: Rabid Wolf Or Striped Wolf Spider

If I'm not mistaken that looks like a species of Wolf Spider. Atleast similar to the ones we have in SC.

Edit: I just saw your edit. They are rather harmless, and the bite feels something akin to a bee sting if that. This species is good for getting rid of other insects as well as other spiders so a few here and there aren't so bad.

It looks like a common wolf spider. Most spiders are harmless and are good neighbors so I hope it's still alive. :)

Yeah, it's a Rabid (or Striped) Wolf Spider.. I did let it go as I try not to kill any bugs unless I have to. I tossed it out on the patio outside and it was big enough when it hit the concrete the neighbor's tomcat took off running. ;)

Funny because I was just in Walmart yesterday looking at a kid's toy called a Backyard Safari Bug Vac, thinking I could use it to vacuum up and capture alive all the spiders, crickets, grasshoppers, and beetles I find in the apartment! I didn't get it because it was $15 but now I may go back!

:sold:

First one I've seen that big around here anyway.. I'm not big on spiders either.. they make me squeamish!

I know they can be beneficial but I don't want them in the house, sorry!

It's a quit pro quo:

They don't live in my place, and i don't live in their holes, or eat their food or hang around in their webs. Works out just fine thus far.

If Spiders Ruled The Earth.. what a place this would be.

Haha, nice one.

We have those, and that big too. I'm not scared of them, but it does make me jump a little when I see one that big within a foot or two of me, before I recognise it.
