Found obscene sites need advice

Hi All

While going through some hosted sites I have I found a child porn site and a rape/incest site. I have of course contacted the authorities (just a note the sites seem to be in Turkish). I have a meeting with the Scottish hi tech division of the police force on tuesday.

the sites themselves were forums. I have backed up the sql for the forums as well as httpd logs that I have for those forums (unfortunately mixed with other forums as well but not much I can do about that).

Is there anything else that anyone can think of that I will be able to supply the police with (I have root access on the server so can access anything needed).

No gchick I will certainly not post any links or information regarding this at all. It is not exactly the sort of thing you should look at with idle curiosity. By the way it is not just semi nude photo's or anything like that, i'm not going to go into detail but there was the worst of the worst child porn there.

The site in question was a forum on 1 of these free forum hosts. I have turned those particular forums offline (not going to delete them until I have the ok from the high tech crime department here in Scotland.

I just wish to make sure that I have any information available about them. I have the sql backup from the forums plus the website logs, I really can't think of anything else I may be able to get. I did not have any contact with them before nor since. I know the person who started the forums email exists as it was needed for them to get their password via an email (it was a gmail account, looks like it is the account of choice now for deviants).

Just a note my server never hosted any of the videos or photos they seem to be hosted on free file upload sites.

Contact google with the gmail account see if you can get some information about this person, or if there unwillling to give you the details, get the police to get the information from google, I believe they should be more then happy to assist.

Would it not have been better to leave them online,
and contact the police,
making it easier to track down users (in every sense of the word) of this forum.
Doesn't turning it offline alert them that the game is up?

ammo I contacted gmail regarding this and listed over 40 email accounts that are involved as of yet they are yet to respond.

Halobitt the police are aware that they are offline they are interested in the data itself, they did not seem concerned that I had turned them offline. Remember I have the httpd logs for the forum. If they wish it to be turned back on then I will do so but I am not going to until they request that. As the admin of the server I have a responsibility to ensure that things like this are not available, If I know it is there and keep it active then I could be held responsible.


What I find truely frightening the child porn forum had over 800 members and the rape / incest had over 1500 members. It just goes to show you there are plenty of sick people out there.

I think just locking them up would be too easy... A chair and a couple of volts of electric would be ideal.

Just had the meeting with the "National High Tech Crimes Unit Of Scotland" All seems to have gone well and have managed to supply them with a huge log of the forums so hopefully they can do something about it.

When I used to run a fairly large free forum host back in 2003/2004 we always got sick websites like these popping up. They could be online a matter of hours and have 20k posts with 5k members. I was usually alerted by the DC to remove the content from our servers so I didn't have the time to go contacting the authorities.

It's disgusting.

When I used to run a fairly large free forum host back in 2003/2004 we always got sick websites like these popping up. They could be online a matter of hours and have 20k posts with 5k members. I was usually alerted by the DC to remove the content from our servers so I didn't have the time to go contacting the authorities.

I had the ability to disable the forum and managed to get the logs etc almost immediately. The log file if about 330 meg so I do not envy the person who has to wade through that

It's all "underground". They problem now people who know people who know people.....etc

This is definately a horrible thing and such things bring disaster and ultimate punishment by super creator, i registered few nasty domains in eu landrush just to make sure no nasty person get them and misuse them.

From what I've read, they advertise by way of newsgroups and instant messenger chat and other chat rooms.. 99% of the mainstream ISP's host child porn by way of the binary newsgroups they make available. If they (the ISP's) can't police the newsgroups, they shouldn't offer them AND should be held accountable.

I'd have to agree, as they're helping spread child porn through the internet.
