Hey guys,

For those of you with some experience do you find that selling domains and developed websites fetches you more money by selling on the forums or by selling on ebay?

I don't know about developed sites, but selling domains on the forums definitely makes me more money. And end-user sales are even better, usually. :)

Cheers!

This is probably something that depends on a case-to-case basis and while one site may do better for some, the other one may be better (depending on timing, category, etc.)...

So if you really want to, try both.

If you were to consider doing it in eBay anyway, it wouldn't cost you anything to offer it in the forums too...

Or sell it in the forums stating that you're selling it on eBay and even including a link to it. I've seen this many times. That way, you hit two birds with one stone.

I think it just comes down to luck, the right end user or reseller seeing and bidding on the domain!

I've sold sites for four figures many times on eBay between 1999 and 2002, but I have not tried lately. It seems cluttered with a lot of templated and knock off sites right now, so I wonder if its still possible to have similar successes.

I think you may be best selling on a forum. There would be more chance of selling it in my opinion, and I think it would be the best way to get an easy and smooth transaction.

I two, like RJ, have noticed loads of gibberish posted on Ebay lately. It seems the amount of website designs and domains, fake or not, have greatly rose. Perhaps this could make a sale harder to sell, or even get a reserved price on?

Also, if you sell on Ebay, you owe them a percentage of the final sale cost, where as on a forum, it usually costs nothing!

I personally don't have experiance on selling on Ebay, but it's something I might try out if I was curious as to what would be the best seller between that and a forum.

Yea, like they mentioned above, the best would probably be on a forum, because basically you have to give ebay a cut. But, I'd say to be sure you can trust your buyer, and use a trustworthy forum so you know that people will try to help you out if you're scammed.

Hi Jeanco,

I visit ebay offen just to see what Domain Names are selling and for what prices.
The Domain Names that I see selling on eBay alot are 3 characters.
Prices ranges from: $1.00 to $91.00 (remember these are 3 characters .com ( 2vw.com example).

I agree with nicholas,
Sell it in the forums stating that you're selling it on eBay and even including a link to it. I've seen this many times. That way, you hit two birds with one stone.

Good Luck Hope That Helps
Jw

At the forums, your audience will primarily be domain resellers and developers, so you will be less likely to find end-users and the corresponding higher prices for your names. The other side to that is that it is more difficult to find end users to sell to so you are more likely to sell your names at forums because you have a select audience. Ebay to me is for selling names cheaoly that you have lost interest in or for trying to get lucky that , fortuitously, the right end user just might be looking at the same time you have your name up for auction assuming of course that the right enduser ever goes to eBay. A crapshoot made worse by the previously discussed clutter in the DN category.:|

I would use forums for quick sale and ebay/end users for higher valued domain names!

In forums, the chances of finding the right end-user is very low. Just my opinion, though.

A featured listing on eBay will definately get you more eyeballs than a post on a forum. I still believe that you have a better chance there. Maybe time for another of my experiments. :)
