I'm thinking about creating a website that is only going to have a forum. The domain would be something like xxxxxforum.com. Does anyone have any advice on attracting people to the site or hosting advice? Anyone with personal experience on this?

How would you make this successful? Pitfalls?

i have a website, and it has only forum, nothing else. all i did i went to the similar communities and personally invited people to the new forum, also i registered it in some relative top 100 lists, and now most of visitors are coming from there. that was, a 1,5 year ago, and now i have about 820 active users where. If count that this is very specific forum, number is very big. and site is ranking pr4. so it is possible.
