Forum BW question

Hey,

I am thinking of putting a forun on one of my site that averages 7k uniques a day, so thought might as well.

I was wondering, how much bandwidth on AVERAGE do you think the forum would take up? Bear in mind uploads and stuff will be disabled, all images and stuff will be offsite hosts used (Like avatars etc).

Currently my site without downloads and just the visitors takes up about 1.5gb a day with as I say, just the visitors and site design obviously being downloaded and nothing else, so would a forum be more or less then that, do you think, IF all those people were be to visit the forum daily. (Which they won't, but just trying to get an average)

i Get around 3-4k uniques a month (so far this month) on my forum (invision 2.0.1) @ www_phoneforums_co_uk and use around 2 GB of bandwidth the main part of this is downloads so the actually forum abndwidth i think its pretty small.

so you can sort of work out some things fromt hat if you wish

It's an exponential growth factor as your forum grows, as the more content there isfor them to see, the longer they stay around and the more bandwidth they use.
Also, Google and Yahoo crawl more often as you get larger as well.

Also, what are the pro's of putting a forum on a site? Do you think it helps get more visitors and stuff?

well it lets you users communicate and see's the type of people you site attracts. I think adding a forum will make more people come back to the site if they like the forums.

Although that dosent seem to be the case for mine. They register download and dont come back

You should make it so only people can download who have a certain amount of posts

put adsense on your site and you could pay back the hosting fees if you get enough cash from it

I would if the app let me lol

Its currently only a beta app but works fine on the forums. Im not to worried about my bandwidth as i have more then enough to cope with what my site requires.
