Hi all what are your thoughts opinions on foreign word .com's?

by this i mean things like dictionary words in say French or Spanish or German,

I was reading that if you have the .com and .de for German domains then you stand a bit of a chance is this true or can you have and still make a profit from say Immobilien . com (German for property)?

Sorry for the questions but i am only just starting to learn about domains

Thanks

Brett.

Foreign-word or two-word .COM domains do sell on occasion but at lower prices than the comparable English .COM. However, I wouldn't spend my time looking for reg fee opportunities in any major language as the logical combinations were taken long ago. You could explore drops however.

It's possible any established website may be interested in acquiring the .com equivalent but some country's cctld's have really good market penetration, and in your example, German's .de is one such country, where people are more likely to type .de than .com.

With that said, if this is going to be your strategy, my guess would be that Spanish and French words would be more highly sought after, given that far more people are likely to claim this as their first language.

For example, In my opinion, Hola.com and Bonjour.com, would be worth far more than GutenTag.com

Thanks for all your comments,

Would someone be kind enough to explain a little more about exploring "dropped domain" ie where to find them and how to search for them?

Thanks

Foreign domains can reap good returns so I totally disagree that Reg-fee 'foreign' extension domains are no longer available.
For example Mike Mann (Just Google him.) who paid an $8 reg-fee for Rostizado.com (Spanish for 'Roast') back on 31st August 2013 got $5,000 for the domain recently.
He also reported the sale of EntretienAuto.com (French for 'Car Maintenance') which had been dropped a few times before he picked it up ($7) from a drop in August 2012. He sold it 4 months later for $5,000.

Although he is a big time Domainer it still shows these domains are out there for the picking.

There are still opportunities in these kind of reg-fee domains if you are willing to do the translations and the searches.
Although I must admit that 1-word and 2-word domains should be your limit and that it will take 'a lot' of work to find good ones BUT they can be found.

French, Spanish and German seem to be the ones reported most frequently so they are definitely the best bet for the most profitable finds.

Again I would not waste my time looking for one-word .COM domains available for reg fee. Every week someone wins the lottery but does that make it a good investment? Time is money. Regarding expired domains, check out Namejet, Snapnames, Godaddy Auctions. Focus on shorter, non-hyphenated .COMs. They won't be easy to find and you may have to bid against other domainers. Suerte.
