I am about to develop a forum with a topic that I own the names NameChat.com and NameForum.com. What domain would you guys use??

It seems novice surfers might surf for "chat" while more experienced will surf for the "forum". Whichever name I use, I will probably have the other one as a like a blog that talks about the most recent/best topics so they will both get used.

Just trying to decide what name should be the main vbulletin forum.

Thanks in advance. :tu:

You sort've answered your own question.

Are you aiming at the novice market, or the experienced market? That will have a big influence in the decision you will make.

Also, you wouldn't really name a blog NameForum, so that may be better for the forum name than for the blog.

Most likely the novice.

Might go with chat, but like I said it will be a Vbulletin, so it won't actaully be chat but a forum type chat...

I am a fan of "forum" although "chat" or "board" can also be very brandable. I think the popularity of the term "forum" and it's internet meaning will continue to grow to reach most of the mainstream, or novice users, over the next 5 - 10 years.

Why? Type any major sport name followed by the word "forum.com" and you know exactly what you are getting. Novice users will likely stumble upon these forum sites by searching for terms such as football disccussion, baseball chat, or hockey message board, but in the end, they are going to gain an understanding of what "forum" means.

It seems that most sites that don't use "forum" in their domain, still refer to their message boards as "Forum(s)". A perfect example is a little tiny site for novice users called Myspace.com. At the top of every Myspace page and profile in existance is a hyperlink to the messageboard with anchor text that says "Forum". How big is myspace?

Google :
Results 1 - 10 of about 1,170,000,000 for forum
Results 1 - 10 of about 199,000,000 for message board
Results 1 - 10 of about 34,500,000 for chat

guile,

Thanks for the reply. You sold me :sold: Going to use the forum version of the domain. And use the chat domain as a feeder discussing the most popular threads.

Thanks again everyone.
