Hi,
This is a question that I would prefer users from Europe to answer.

When you register a domain, do you use a site like godaddy or namecheap? which are American sites.

OR

Do you use a site like eurodns? which is a European site but is more expensive.

depends on service, pricing and security

for my "improtant" domains i use some from europe (germany)
because i know i can call them, and if they do something wrong i can sue them.

but pricing in US is great ;) ... and ..... 1.3 US$ = 1 Euro ;)
its currently very cheap

(i dont see eurodns as example for europe ;) )

It was the only site I could think of :hehe:

Anyone else's comments?

In The Netherlands you pay twice as much for .com .net domains, even .info domains can go for โ‚ฌ10.00 retail plus the control panels aren't build for people with actual domain portfolios.

So the choice is obvious ;)

I think the general consensus is that most people prefer to register TLDs from a well-known, big registrar (not always American, but mostly so). But for their ccTLDs, they prefer to use a registrar based in their own country (For me for example, I prefer to register my UK domains in the UK, mainly because its cheaper :p)

Doesn't matter, whoever is the best for the particular extension.

I agree with Damion.

Retail prices are best on American sites. :imho:

eurodns is only good for ccTLDs and even then I tend to use registrars based in the same country as the TLD.
For .co.uk domains UK-based registrars are usually OK
For .com American registrars for sure.

I prefer namecheap over godaddy, the control panel is better and you don't get the tons of silly advertising everytime you need to reg a domain or perform some operation.

To register .com, .net etc.. I use a Canadian or American based Registrar
For European ccTLDs I use European based Registrars.

I mainly use the big American registrars for all my domains, I used to use a UK registrar for my .uk domains, but bizarrely they were taken over by a big American company and I stopped using them. Their service became terrible once they were taken over and I transferred all my domains out.

The only European registrar I use now is for my .eu domains, but only because they were one of the only companies I found that didn't want any upfront payment when pre-registering .eu domains.
