The real money in domains is Holding top premiums for long term,

i think domain strategies should be divided in 2

1. Short term flips with a goal to build a cash flow

2. To acquire premium domains for long term hold appreciation growth,

Realistically, short term flipping is barely a thing any more.

There is heavy competition for quality domains, so many of the investors you would flip domains to already saw them.

It is also not easy to find underpriced gems on a consistent basis.

Also, you need a very high multiple on domains you do sell to make up for a low sell-through rate.

It is hard to do that with flipping.

I've wondered about "flipping" premium names (legit ones :)), as a means of growing capital.

Proportionately there might be more of a margin.

Any thoughts?

Good point

what i mean about flipping,

there are domains like trends, premium .ai domains, or .io, or premium other extentions, hot tlds, which is unknown if will last for future... that its better to sell etc

but to separate those to strategies, and to acquire premium domains, in upcoming markets, or upcoming tech or solid premium domains, that is worth much more to hold long term

There are basically three potential buyers to flip domains to.

1.) Domain investors.

If you don't already have some connections, what is the plan? Post names on NamePros, social media, send unsolicited spam via email or DM?

2.) End users. It's hard to proactively sell domains to end users.

You might be able to sell ultra high quality domains or lower quality domains for a few hundred dollars.

You need to move a lot of domains at a really high STR if you are selling domains for a few hundred dollars.

3.) Known buyers. This is best option. IMO.

You might have connections with buyers that are interested in certain types of domains, normally domain investors.

I frequently buy domains from people that bought them recently. I don't track every auction, everywhere.
So, I miss some.

However, I pass on a lot more than I buy. The ones I do buy are not normally spectacular returns for the seller.

"Flipping" is a tough business model, especially to sustain over a period of time.

If I was going to do it, I would rather try to move good domains for higher prices than register whatever is available, and try to "flip" low quality domains.

At least in that situation, worst case you are stuck with good domains.
