Fireworks / photoshop help

I normally used Fireworks for my simple graphical need and have less experience in photoshop..

so to improve on a little bit, i have seen ovelaying images on internet.. two pics merged with great clarity.. blurring the joints...

wanted to see if anyone can help me point to the tutorials or could show me how to it...
