Hey All,

Well i figured i'd share this with everyone here and hopefully it will help someone.

I was surfing around last nite and thought to myself.. I should buy a new laptop. So first thing i thought 'lets check ebay' .. maybe i can find a great deal. So off to ebay i go to the laptops. I get there and looking through them and can't really find the one i'm looking for and there was so many listed i figured i should just type in the specs i'm looking for..

Specs. 3.0 of bigger
1GB Ram of more
80gig HD or more

Now i'm hit search and its brought it down quite a bit. SO i'm searching and see one i'm interested in .. Dell XPS 3.0, 2gigs RAM and all the works. WOW! i'm impressed. Goto Dell website and punch in all of the specs that are listed and HOLY CRAP "$4400" .. Now take into fact this is listed as brand new for $1500 and its a 1 day listing.

First thing>> Look at seller rating.. woohooo its 100% with 20+ items sold.. I click BUY IT NOW> but this only leads me to a place to e-mail the guy.. He said he wants to speak with anyone before they commit to buy since he got ripped off before.. Well this makes me think its even better since he is taking extra security steps like this.

Email sent>>>>> Waiting for reply

Reply comes and guy says its for sale. I was like Yeahhhhhh. So something told me to start asking a few questions.. So i started to rattle off.. Where did you buy this? How much did you Pay? What's the reason for selling? He answered all perfect and i was impressed. So i said how would you like to do the money transfer. He said Western Union. I said .. ehhhhh How about Bid Pay. He said he needs the money fast. Well bidpay is quick so i started to think what's the difference. He e-mails me back again before i even replied saying that he spoke with square trade from ebay and they are handling the transaction.. ""That set off another light"".. They don't do things like that.

Then i get an e-mail directly from ebay square trade. Emails says there handling everything and everything is insured and covered. THis was a legit e-mail "at least i thought".. Well off i go to square trade to contact them. After about an hr they contacted me back .. The e-mail was a spoof. They have no records and they would not and never recommend any transactions. They only look into them.

Well thank god i took those extra steps to look into everything. They also told me there has been alot of spoofing going around and to keep an eye out.

SO if you purchase off ebay look into your product more.

Well i still got the $1500 in my pocket and i guess i'm just going to purchase one directly from a store/supplier.

Thanks,

There are heaps of scammers around these days. You just have to keep your eye out for them. Glad you didnโ€™t lose anything. :tu:

Smart not to fall into that "spur of the moment" trap.

Thanks for sharing,

people can boost their own ratings also.
But whenever someone mentions a quick "cash" way to pay with no backing on your part - then that should put up a big red flag.

I never use Western Union. Way to easy to get screwed.

Chances are you won't get scammed. The percentage of happy buyers far outweigh the unhappy IMHO.

ps: I hope that is not like telling the pitcher he has a no-hitter going prior to him walking out to the mound to pitch in the bottom of the ninth!

I have been on eBay since Feb 99 and I haven't had a problem yet that I didn't get resolved.
