Favicon Quick Help

I saw a thread the other day about them but i cant find it anywere now, can someone tell me how to add them? What file type do i have to save it as? Can it be a normal gif file? It says on an internet guide save it as fave.ico so im kinda confused.

any .gif or any graphic files can be converted into .ico as long as you convert them to .bmp
you can use icon editor it's free http://ranfo.com/iconedit.html
then save it in your root directory or public_html as favicon.ico

thanks weblord! so i have to save it to my root not the images folder?

i can't use that software i am on a mac : ( does anyone know of something i could use for a macbook?

You need a 16x16 GIF image (you can also use JPG, PNG or ICO -- only GIF and the latter is compatible with all (recent) browsers).

You can save it anywhere but it will be more compatible at the root of the website.

Add the following in the <head> of your page:

Code:

	<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.gif">
	<link rel="icon" href="/favicon.gif">

(always use the full path to the favicon eg. /blog/images/favicon.gif)
