Fake Page Rank Domains - Getting Annoyed!

I've had several people within the last week offer to sell me domains that have x amount of page rank.

Then when I look at what the domain resolves to, I see that another site comes up. Essentially the page rank for the domain you're trying to sell is given by the backlinks from the other site! It is done through a 301 or 302 redirect and it seems that people are buying dropped domains that have a high PR, but in reality they have NO PR.

I've gotten really annoyed with all these offers, so go here:
http://www.seologs.com/pr-check/pagerank.html

Type in your domain - if your domain comes out as the result - you're fine, but if another domain shows and the PR is the PR that you *think* your domain has, then you have a 301/302 redirect problem!

I agree it's a problem, and it's one that NamePros takes very seriously, and we have a proven track record of investigating and dealing with appropriately. However this does not belong in the Domains For Sale section so I'm moving to Domain Discussion. ;)

I, too, have been getting annoyed with the worthless domains getting passed off as PR 7s and 8s. That link is pretty nice. It shows how they do it (I've been trying to figure that out for a while and no one wanted to help me).

Does that mean that say xxxx.info with a PR5 will pass it on to yyyy.info if redirected via PHP or .htaccess (30X)?

Then should xxxx.info drop will yyyy.info loose the PR. I want to move content from x to y & let x drop in a year or so.

No

The pr is not passed to the cloaked URL. Only the google toolbar is fooled to display the higher PR. Just do a backlink search and only the high PR website related links show up. The bad think is your website never shows up in the google radar so no indexing under that name...

Useful for other purposes but for PR it is really useless...

Yes and the sad thing about this is some people think if they do it ,that it is REAL PR.
I have had discussions with several naive Namepros Newbies,
who had been told that it is the best and quickest way to get a PR.

There has been Faked PR domains on sale that were regged less than a week earlier ,no way can any name get a realistic PR, in that time. Too much emphasis is being placed on PR ,so faked PR is becoming more of a problem.
I have said it before ,but it bears repeating.

A good PageRank is the reward for good SEO and Linkbuilding ,not a substitute.

The only thing you can really do with it - just check and analyse manually each domain you want to buy. :(

I agree with xtremest. Of course, it is ahrd for domainers with hundreds and thousands domains to manage. But it is much better way to make sure you buy really a good domain

I once regged habboforum.info & qoqo.info which had a PR of 5 (or maybe 6, not sure :D ) each, but after a while (I think that was when Google updated PR) the PR for those two domains dropped to 0 !

Soon hopefully they will stop since more and more people are aware of the fact that they cheat like this.

TopSatelliRadio - good tip. Rep added.

I'm going to write a tool to detect server response status and issue a fake PR warning if it's a 30x redirect. Anyone has a sample of redirected URLs? I need to test whether it's working properly.

Thank you.

That's weird. I have 3 domains that redirect to blog sites. Two of the domains came up fine using that tool, but one came up as the redirect site. I wonder what the difference is?

It so called redirect to new permanent location. 301 is digital code of answer of HTTP server to request of URL - Permanently moved. 302 is temporary redirect - Temporary moved. 404 - Not Found, 200 - OK etc.
You can read the info here http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html

301 is good method to move PR from one site to another for Google.
