Extension as keyword?

I see a lot of people using the extension as part of the keyword for example "casca.de". I have a few questions about this, does the search engine look at the word casca.de as cascade? Also what are the disadvantages of registering domain names like the above example?

I think they are called "hacked" domains (the word is hacked in half by the DOT) and I think in very few cases is it natural or intrinsic.

It's a fun, marketing gimmic and if played right, whould work just fine and maybe even give a domain an edge.

But in general, the searching or typing publid doesn't think to type in a domain that way.

Heck, we're still trying to get them to type in something other than DOT COM. LOL!

Thanks but I was thinking more along the lines of revenue as a parked domain rather than branding or type in traffic.

I would have to say, yes, it can play a part.

Take a look at this third listing for spyware.pro:

Notice that the Pro ext is bold. Google is looking at the ext, but how much of a role it plays is unknown.

If it considered a seperate word then doing these "hacks" would be pointless unless your motive is branding yeah???

and spacepro.be (which could possibly stand alone).
