Received an e-mail from Fabulous introducing a new service they offer. Should a domainer choose this new option, it would send expiring domains-only those reg'd at Fabulous-to Namejet auction with a starting price of $69. Should they sell, the owner gets 60% of the sale price, minus the renewal fee.

Although 60% isn't a lot, it seems if a person was letting the domains expire anyway, any revenue generated by the sale is a good deal. Of course, the majority may not sell at namejet, but for every one that does, that's at least renewal fees for a few domains at the minimum.

I've contacted my account rep and said 'sign me up!'

Since Fab started their DDN I've sold 3 names that I was going to let expire. The added exposure of NJ and its auction platform could mean some decent revenue.

I signed up too. Up until the recession hit, I'd done pretty well selling names through the DDN to begin with. I'm thinning out my portfolio and dropping a lot of things anyway - if they sell on NameJet, 60% is better than $0.

Just have to be careful I don't accidently lose anything I plan to keep - I've been known to renew things last-minute.

Here's some stats on the Expiring Domains Services program, which I thought some may find interesting:

Mean: $86.08
Median: $69.00
Mode: $69.00
Biggest sale: $1011.00

* Note: Network wide stats.

And below are some examples of domains we have sold from our own portfolio:

DeerHuntingLodge.com - $360.00
ESolarPanels.com - $367.00
AvoidingStress.com - $445.00
NebraskaBailBond.com - $565.00
CognitiveBehavorialTherapy.com - $586.00
NewYorkElevators.com - $670.00
SportBetsOnline.com - $690.00

Cheers,

Mike

Applaus for Fabulous on this move. I have said for years that expiring names should be sold with benefit to the previous owner. Great job.

Unfortunately, because it was one of our customer's domains, I'm unable to disclose the domain name.

Just a quick update...

I've let a few names drop that I normally would have renewed. Of the 10-15 that I let drop I've sold two at the $69 opening bid which net's you ~$37 U.S

Next month I've got a couple of decent names that I'm going to let go through the whole redemption period to see if they get any bids.

the names were

Is there a way to easily check which expired domains have gone to Namejet...or where they are in the process?

If you have signed up for the Expired Domains Service, your domains will be automatically listed at NameJet shortly after they expire. The listing will be removed if you renew the domain, or the domain goes into Redemption.

So long as you haven't marked the domain as "Never Sell" or the domain is under E-lock, all expired domains will be listed.

More details can be found here.

Let me know if there's any other questions.

Cheers,

Mike
