The Great $50M African IP Address Heist

According to a report, a top executive from The African Network Information Centre (AFRINIC), Africa's regional Internet registry, has resigned on news of $50 million of IPv4 addresses being sold on the black market.

Interesting story.

For those not aware, IPv4 is pretty much tapped out except in Africa.

The process for getting registered as a .NG registry is tedious. The process for becoming an AFRINIC member is probably also tedious. We have not tried yet.

In the meantime, good to know that graft is getting busted.

Afrinic is based in Mauritius. Nice place for a HQ.
