Lets say both where undeveloped:

NiceCar.com vs Nice.car

1. Who wins, and by how much?
2. Will it always stay the same?
3.Who wins the seo-battle for those two keywords? Will they be able to stand toe-to-toe.

(I know the .com will win today. But the question is for how long, and by how much)

It depends. Given both should function identically within the DNS and read almost the same, nice.car is better because it is more succinct. The .com suffix is technically surplus to requirements. However some here may argue that nice.car doesn't look like a domain name, possibly because they understand what a domain name is, or believe it should be, therefore also believe they know what a domain name should look like. The addition of the .com suffix to "nicecar" for those that understand what a domain name is ensures that there is absolutely no mistaking nicecar.com as anything other than a domain name, where some might argue that nice.car isn't obviously a domain name upon visual inspection.

It's currently not possible to quantify (1), in respect of (2) I believe it will be down to trends and preferences and (3) don't know but it might vary and be down to more than the domain name.

Nice.car wins. I would always take nice.car over nicecar.whatevertld

NiceCar.com will win now and will always win

Sure, there will always be a few domainers that like the new extensions, but try selling it to an end-user ;)

NiceCar.com - 11 characters
Nice.car - 7 characters

A shorter name is better. I vote for nice.car

I would buy both and redirect nicecar.com to nice.car; eventually nicecar.com won't be needed just like www. is no longer needed.

:) Eventually = 25 years from now

While Nice.Car remains $2,888.88 registration and renewal there is no 'contest' worth debating.

So lets look at this as a 5 Year Domain Buying & Selling Sceanrio.

So you buy NiceCar.com for say $10000 an example. And Nice.Car 5 years renewal would be $10000. So post 5 Years you have invested into both $10000 while in NiceCar.com you have potential to get Organic Traffic far more easier than the GTLD. Also, you would not have to worry in the 6th year for another 2000$ Renewal.

Also, The 2000$ annual renewal price is and can be changed increases or decreases whenever at the will of Frank. However .com would stay at 8-10$ maybe increase to 15$ thats it.

I wasn't considering the renewal cost specifically for nice.car; I was using nicecar.com/nice.car in the generic sense of a pair of .com/new gTLD. Many gTLDs are available for low $15-$30/year renewal fee.

Oh Ok, In that it depends on the domains, For Eg the Only GTLD i hold is GREEN.LAND, in this case owning this is better because obviously i cant possible afford to buy a Country Geo. But having said so, this is only an example where these are 2 seperate words and not a domain hack with a gtld.

If a GTLD can act as a Domain Hack, a Geo or a name which in .com is valued in 6 figures that it makes sense to go for a GTLD but other than that its a waste.

So the guy who bought Travel.Agency for $10000 at Flippa auction paid this much cauz TravelAgency.com is worth 6 figures.

My point of view is to only invest in GTLD if the .com is impossible to get.

When it comes to voting, my vote goes for nice.car
But when it comes to purchasing the domain, I would go for nicecar.com because considering the regstration and renewal of nice.car, I would buy myself a nice car and invest the rest on nicecar.com

.Com or cctld

NiceCar.com is registered, the other is not. Tells you all you need to know. :)

Good question.

This is where there's going to be havoc on the net. What happens when we have two completely different websites, run by seperate entities, with exact matches in dot-com and gTLD?

Sure, nicecar.com is known and trusted. But the future is headed towards nice.car. So what's the solution? Does one have to own both versions now? This is like the late 90's early 2000's, where a lot of people thought they had to own the .org and .net versions to protect their .com's. But that turned out to be wrong. I don't think that will be the case with nice.car. It makes sense to want to shorter, more relevent version.

Nice.car will be desired even more if you are the nicecar.com owner. I have sold gTLD's to dot-com owners wanting exact matches.

Nice.car has the brand presence of a toy shop.

NiceCar.com has the brand presence of a serious business that offers not only purchasing but also hiring, trade shows, branded goods, membership services, clothing, apparel, etc.

Your brand name represents not only your story of where you have been, but the journey of where you are going. With a .car you are nothing more than a car.

It looks like Apple chose a .car domain instead of ****car.com

That is a domain name for a product.... exactly how brands use gtld to their advantage..this is a good example.

But your main web presence will always be a dot com for the globe, and cctlds for geo presence, since you will likely cater for each region with special products, services and geo referencing.

Using a .whatever for your main site will never happen (at least not for companies who are serious about the image they have).

apple.car - toy shop ?

The website has nothing on it, its just a protective reg like they do with most extensions, (apple.mobi or example) it means nothing.

Apple own most of the extension with their company name...Apple.de...Apple.fr...Apple.it etc etc

It has nothing to do with a Car or Cars, its just the extensions they want...the same as they own Apple.Solutions, Apple.Guru, Apple.Expert, Apple.News etc

nice.car doesn't make SEO sense, because Google Search doesn't consider the extension, dot right side, as a key and it would lose internet traffic.

So, if the business is centered on CARs, the key CAR have to be in name, dot left side!
