Has anyone heard of a domainer registering a keyword, name, or whatever, in many or even every domain extension available? So, this would mean .com, .net, .org and potentially 10's or 100's of other domain extensions such as country codes.
I've seen a .com packaged with a .net and .org and this seems to increase the value of the offering. To that end, a .mobi and .tv would further increase the offering. One could keep going with this train of thought.
This could amount to an incredibly expensive endeavor. I can't imagine any domainer doing this because it would be very speculative, but I can see a company with a strong brand doing this. A company like Google.com more than likely owns all of the possible domain extensions they can get their hands on (and rightfully so).
Has anyone purchased many domain extensions of the same name for something they planned to develop or something they thought was a very strong brand?
