Hello!

I would like to ask if anybody has experience with the .sk extension. It stands for the Slovak Republic and it´s quiete new market in mid-Europe.

Today I was confirmed to own a few cool names:

tax.sk
sk1.sk
cee.sk
cams.sk
bars.sk
word.sk
pics.sk
rooms.sk
flights.sk
cameras.sk
directory.sk

Is there a market for it? Are English words widely used in Slovakia?

Thanks for your opinions!

Slovakia: is the smaller part of the old Czechoslovakia. Smaller in size, in population, in resources and is poorer.

I know very little about this extension. How much for each registration?

49 per name, but the population is more than 5 million!

Honestly speaking your investment was rather pointless, as you'd better off with Slovak language domains for .sk and not English ones. As for trying to use those for an international English speaking market, it will be very harsh. I really am sorry to say this, but I think you did a bad decision. Should have scouted the market first. Slovakia is an Eastern European country and like most of Mainland Europe, it's better to use native languages.

haven't heard of it personally, but you do have some good keywords there. Try to get some developed.

I appreciate your quote! Because I was not sure to use the english words or better to go in german or slovak language itself. I have searched for slovak sites and found most of them with .com and .sk. No keyword is used in german language but all of them are in Slovak and English language like

beerismylife.com :xf.love:
chess.sk,
party.sk,
travel.sk,
tourist-channel.sk,
finance.sk. (with Ads from Credit Suisse Bank)

Here is a good guide Slovak Links for it. Therefore I am quiete optimistic for my keywords. :$:

It looks like it is restricted - only local entity/business can reg...

extension has had some popular sites, including host.sk (mentioned earlier) which hosted tons of sites, and the www.box.sk network (i'm sure there are more than a few people on here familiar with astalavista ;) )

however, in all reality, most english keywords arent going aren't going to do great with the .sk extension. i would suggest sticking to either 3 letter or internet keyword .sk for resale.

More than 50% of Slovak "youth" speak English better than I do ;)
I spent a while in Poprad, Kosice, and Bratislava during my Eastern European stays, and have to say I was more impressed with Slovakia than I was the Czech Republic.

I like .sk as a regional play, and for great keywords it's not bad either. Unfortunately, no intuitive meaning of .sk standing on its own.

$50 for .sk's is a steal, because in country, it's 4,000SK (Almost $100), and I know in the US it's hard as well.

One caveat, .sk has been quite proactive in enforcing their residence requirements.

Preco? Lebo med ved.

Where are you registering .sk names?

I have learned from these guys in a german forum and they even offer backorders. They also have great prices -> 18 - 19 USD per year!!! Maybe you want to give them a try.

After 3 days I am really pleased with my .sk names. They all have beginning traffic and the best one seems to be word.sk with 6 visitors today and 15 in total. This is the best start I have ever had. :gl:

Hey Sigi
After reading Allan's post I sent an email to them asking about reg'ing if not a citizen or entity...here is what they sent back..

You cannot be legal registrant of .SK domain name if you are not Slovak person or company, because of the rules of SK-NIC registry (www.sk-nic.sk - in Slovak language only). We often register .SK domains for foreign customers in OUR name and the customers can use them. That's why we are the 2nd biggest registrant of .SK domain names in the world. You can't be afraid of losing such a domain name, it's secure and we certify your rights to use the domain name. There is no other possibility to use .SK domain name.

Best regards

I guess I am still a little nervous about losing names.

If you do make any moves in .sk, don't use a proxy for your names. Incorporate ;)

I would agree astalavista.box.sk has to be the most famous site using the extension worldwide. Its not real good when the most famous site using an extension is dedicated to hacking. Regarding using the extension in words, I wonder if t.sk is already taken or if they allow one character registrations?
