EU transfer and renewal

When you transfer an eu domain the new registration period begins with the
transfer date. Is it practice by all registrars.

The date of transfer will be the new expiration date in any case.
The first date of registration if the domain stays renewed stays the same.

Really?
Like an incompetent management?
Like a stupidly framed Sunrise phase exploited with dodgy Benelux trademarks?
Like an utterly incompetent registrar approval process?
Like a badly designed registry system from a backwater registry?
Like a ccTLD with massive numbers of squatted and warehoused domains by front companies for non-EU citizens?

Right now, some Europeans are taking bets on how many .eu domains will be deleted. The best result would be the deletion of Eurid and the redelegation of .eu to a competent operation.

Exactly. It's one pecularity of the .be TLD and .eu is based on the .be rules...
