Use it only as a tool to help determine the value, estibot is easily tricked when dealing with common phrases that appear on many sites. It offer some insight but should always be used to help you determine what the domain is worth. Also use Namebio.com to look up past sales these add pieces to the puzzle.

Yes .... it's a tool. How you use a tool determines it's value. Estibot compiles
information relevant to the domain industry. Traffic, sales, searches, rankings, ad values etc ....

All the pertinent steps, "one" would take to research a domain, a sector or
niche in the one place. Coupled with the ability to do this in bulk saves time.

Like most tools I think Estibot reflects the value of the user. The more basic
knowledge you have about "domaining" the more productive Estibot will be for you.

I've used it. I like it and found it to be very helpful and insightful.

I notice their appraisals are very conservative, or modest, compared with basically everything else.

Even names what you may think are good, clear, brandable ones are only worth their reg. costs.

So if a name commands more than that, the reg. costs, then is it pretty safe to say it's generally a good name?

it's one of the tools i've used, and best one for me, esp the paid version.

I use estibot. I've been told over and over again that the dollar value it puts on the domain isn't accurate, and of course that's true. It has a lot of other information that is useful, though... and just because the dollar value isn't accurate doesn't mean that stat is for nothing. If it gives a high dollar value, it's probably a good domain, but likely won't sell for what estibot is saying. On the flip side of that, I've searched some domains on there and estibot gave a value much lower than the owner would be willing to sell it for, and even what other people would pay for it.

not always, which is why you see many new domainers hand register domains that they think are amazing (because estibot said so).

No.
You should not look at Estibot's appraised $value.
That's NOT strength of Estibot.
Ignore $appraisal, but, DO use Estibot's other output.

Right on the money here. Estibot sometimes hits in the right range (Hyradated.com - $2400), sometimes underappraises (StockBoxes.com - $320), sometimes overappraises (PainLyrics.com - $8900). Most often for me it overappraises.

As an alternative I'm coming out with a domain resale appraisal tool shortly and still have room for a few more beta testers, who will receive ten free appraisals after signing up via the posted link in my sig. My tool spits out these resale values for the above 3 names:

* PainLyrics.com - $7 reseller (end-user high $XX)
* StockBoxes.com - $49 reseller (end-user mid $XXX)
* Hydrated.com - $64 reseller (end-user high $XXX)

This tool will probably give you a better sense of whether a specific domain is worth registering or backordering than Estibot will. As a rule of thumb, it will be worth your while to hand-register a domain if it scores $10+ reseller, and backordering a domain on SN/NJ if it rakes in $50+ reseller. I think newbie domainers especially will find it useful in helping them avoid the mistake of registering tons of domains that "look tempting" (NowSay.com anyone?) but make them scratch their heads when asked "ok, but who would purchase that domain from you?"
