i was punching in some names on estibot and i noticed that names that i punched in days or a couple of weeks ago, are now valued higher than they were then. for instance votivebox.com was appraised at $730 and now it says it's worth $1100. i realize the valuations mean nothing; but it's interesting nonetheless.

anyone else noticed this or know what would cause it?

Yep, the results do change and it is supposed to be based on previous sales. But I still don't put too much faith in an automated appraisal.

Use estibot as an added tool, it's not your domain's real value. It's an estimated value, whether it sells for that value or not, we can't blame estibot but it's an interesting tool to help you with site data.

Estibot is the best automated apprasial tool I have found. Specifically, I run names that are available for hand reg through there to find value.

But no automated tool, or human appraiser for that matter, can account for an individual owners selling and marketing skills.

If estibot says its worth 90 and youre broke and sell it for 9, does that mean its worth 9 or that you were too lazy to find a buyer for 90?

If estibot says its worth 90 and you put together a great marketing package and convince someone into paying you 900, does that mean its worth 900 or that you are just a great salesman?

Back to your original question: estibot constantly tweaks domain value based on recently reported sales. Some of the statistics used to value the domain may have changed as well, such as the number of PPC ads targeting that keyword. Or the backlinks may have gone up. Or its Alexa ranking may have improved.

It's a great tool for quick and dirty gut checks and an all in one aggregation of information but I wouldn't put a ton of stock in the prices.

A few weeks ago my TreatingDepression,com was valued at $12k there. Today it's $42k there. So far the offers have fallen short of that. I'm not going to hold out for that $42k pay day, but there's no hard in holding the domain and seeing what happens. Development is also a possibility.

Alternatively, I have several names that have dropped in value according to Estibot. Go figure.

I would say a great salesman but who knows. Different names have more value to different people and different organizations. I've sold domains at high $xxx where estibot said Reg Fee, lol.

The valuation = zero

I think that estibot is a fantastic tool for comparing 2 similar names, IMO. Like you can't decide between "bestplasmatvs.com" and "greatplasmatvs.com". Ignore the specific figures, but notice which one gets appraised at a higher value and its often the better choice.

Zero. Automated tools, IMO other then to amuse yourself, are useless. But that is just my experience in buying & selling domains. Your results may vary.

Estibot and myself write one another about every week or so, I understand from his last couple of communications that he has been tweaking the estibot appraisal tool recently, which would account for the differences in valuation, plus of course, domain name fluctuations in the marketplace are constantly changing so all this extra data has to be taken into account continuously.

Though as Estibot himself says, the tool should only be used for guidance purposes as there is no real substitute for a human appraisal.

Nevertheless, on the whole, although not always entirely accurate, this tool serves as a decent resource for many domainers with around half a million people using it per month from what I understand, with page views up close to 800,000 per month.
