I am assured that a majority of people believe that estibot valuations for .TV should be taken with a pinch of salt.

But is that really the case for the majority of names?

I recently ran some available names I felt were of value and all six came out valued at higher than $1000 each.

Would others here really ignore a valuation that high?

Assuming you like a name yourself, is there an estibot figure at which you would jump at the chance to purchase that name?

Is it $500, $1,000, $1,500, $2,000 - or even higher before it is a must-buy?

I think equity said this many times and it remains accurate, to paraphrase

In reality, regardless of the extension, the true estimate of a price is what the enduser will pay for it.

That about says it in the proverbial nutshell. I see a multitude of "hot" .com names dying on a parked page, while the extensions around it get bought by endusers. Why? It's cheaper, and this is a good way to introduce endusers to valid domains that will not eat their profit up and still get the traffic that their marketing produces.

There are times when using a mental .10 multiple with Estibot valuations (to obtain a VERY rough estimate) comes in handy. The full appraisal data is of much more value once the list is narrowed to a few hundred.

For example: Abortions.tv (available)

($1,200 * .10) = $120 adjusted

I use that adjustment with Estibot's fast bulk appraisal tool to help identify candidates in need of further analysis. It sometime helps in narrowing a list containing thousands of names.

I am not really fond of any valuation type service, mainly because it is my belief that when a purchase is made of any significant value two characteristics come mainly into play and those are: emotion and need, which a service or algorithm cannot put a price tag on, imo.

Exactly, although I use the slow bulk appraisal cause I like to export to Excel and sort by the various metrics. I use the appraisal value not as an indicator of true value but as a relative data point for comparison purposes. Scores over 1000 get my attention, though I never buy based solely on these values. I also use a formula to compute a value based on the Adwords Keyword tool. A good Adwords score with high wordtracker, good estibot and lots of PPC ads is what I like to see ... :bingo:

If available names are valued by estibot at $1000 then clearer those valuations aren't right.

Think of an estibot valuation the same way you would the search value on the Adword's keyword tool - not as a true or definitive measure but a relative one, for comparison purposes. The thing about estibot is it is fairly (again not always, like the adwords tool, but fairly) consistent. There is probably a good reason why one .tv domain is valued at $130 and another at $1300. There are other things to take into account (eg, fit w/the extension) but if used wisely can serve as an efficient screening tool, imho.

I like when end users buy off extensions of my .coms when they develop and advertise there is always bleed off to my domain.
