Lol. Well I used to make use of Estibot/Valuate before to provide potential end users with a free domain appraisal. You can still use it for that purpose, though it would be realistic to expect a final sale amount to be 10% of the Estibot appraisal - most of the time.

about this accurate -> playing darts blind folded

If you pitched an automated appraisal to me as a potential end user I would laugh at your ignorance. It means you can't appraise domains - you just have no idea.
I could also counter with another automated appraisal that is more favorable. How would you argue with that ?

The real problem is when newbies decide on their purchases based on what the bot returns. And the resulting portfolio is always bad. Which is normal if you're buying without understanding what makes a domain valuable.

Appraisals don't make domains sell. Somebody has to want to own them.

I do agree. But just by looking at this blue bar at the top. Some of those names are (CRAP) and they still sell for thousands, so is it the draw of the luck? Or did they just market well?

Maybe. Give me an example of crap names that you've seen :)

Domains sales are 99% quality and 1% luck.
Many sales are one of kind, so domains that are perceived to be crap could sell for good money. But statistically, the odds of making a sale are much higher if you own strong domains.
It's important to look at it from a statistical point of view. There are 100 millions domains registered in .com and only a tiny number of those will ever sell.
So a 5-figure appraisal is useless if the likelihood of finding the right end user is zero. An appraisal is just theory.

Not all domains are equal. The trick is to understand what types of domains are in demand. Investing vs gambling.

Frankly speaking, I never met a - real - end user who laughed at Estibot automated appraisals. Usually they have no clue about the value of a domain name, and they are pleased to see a kind of certificate of appraisal most of the time, provided that you are ready to sell the domain name far less than the appraised(!) value. Let's say the automated appraisal is $2,000 , but you write that you are OK with $500. End users love to negotiate and ask for further discounts as you know. This way, a hand registered domain which is simply semi-developed into a Google indexed web site easily sells within the $50-$250 range. This is not a bad roi at all IMO, and you can multiply this if you can find more good (that is product related keyword) domains. Of course, I'm talking about a single strategy here, just about a one out of countless marketing options. Nevertheless this is a fair strategy if you are looking to sell a domain name relatively fast. Personally I don't bother with end users who are asking for alternative appraisals. They can do it by themselves if they are really want to acquire the name, but don't be surprised to find out in the end that they are not that much willing to acquire. I don't believe in appraisals at all. I used to make use of estibot appraisals in order to provide a negotiation base, and that was all about the bot. Premium domain names shouldn't be marketed as described above, of course. Such names arguably don't need to be marketed at all - they'll find you if it's premium indeed.

I use estibot or valuate for the metrics they provide. The $ amount they give is nowhere near the actual value of the domain name.

The metrics are quite useful when we find all of them in one place.

Thanks,

estibot.com is a good tool to have fun...no automatic system/tool can not estimate domain or website value. even manually it is hard to estimate the correct or right value of any domain name or website...but still i love to use estibot and other website value calculator...it's great fun using their tools.

Agree! Only the human market can evaluate a domain name.

That is so true. One of my domains was appraised for $360 and sold for $$,$$$.

I still have a domain appraised for $$$,$$$ and I am ready to sell for low $$$$. Still got no buyer.

Metrics provided are useful though.

Old thread but I will weigh in.

Estibot is great in order to provide concrete value to an end user you are cold calling. Most of the times they have no idea how to gauge the value of a domain.

Also...

If you bought the domain for $300 at a DCS (Drop Catching Service) and Estibot says it's worth $8,000 but you know through experience it's worth more than that.

Don't be an idiot..... I say that with a lot of love.

If an end user offers you $6000 for it then take it, you just made a huge ROI. Move onto your next acquisition and keep the profit rolling.

i think we can not depend on their judge only. but some buyers like to check the domain there before they buy.
