Hey guys,

I just a have a question about estibot.com. I was just wondering how accurate this domain appraisal is. How seriously should I take it when pricing my domains and/or deciding to purchase base on pricing results. If you're a vet and would like to enlighten me with your wisdom, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

estibot isn't very accurate. It might get you into the right ballpark for pricing, or it could be off by a lot.

It's useful as a keyword tool, etc, but the pricing is just an estimate by a robot.

I agree. I think Estibot will show you what a domain MAY sell for at an end-user price. That is, it may show you what the best price you could possibley expect if you have a perfect buyer that needs the domain and is rich. But that happens almost never.

I have put in bad domains and seen high prices, and entered in domains that sold for a LOT and Estibot say they were reg fee. So it's great for a quick check of "potential" value, but only a quick automated check.

The most valuable thing it provides in my opinion, is a tool that you can send people to that helps to justify what you are asking. "See, I'm only asking for $100, but Estibot says the domain is worth $1,200...!". If people don't trust Estibot.com you can send them to Valuate.com to confirm. :)

It also pulls up some great data all in one place for your domain I think that the numbers it pulls up for your domain are worth more than the value that estibot says your name is worth.

Estibot is purely algorithm based. I am not sure exactly how the algorithm works so can't say if it is good or not but in general an estimate from Estibot and similar services are simply not good enough.

Pricing something which is not physical but virtual, something which is purely valuable due to human factors cannot easily be calculated by an algorithm searching the Internet. I think many sales at Sedo is proving that very well :)

What a specific domain is worth to a specific end-user is hard to determine by looking up some keywords in Google etc.

IMHO Estibot and similar services cannot be used as an argument when negotiating a price. Sometimes it might be doing a good job sometimes not. The problem is that you don't know when it returns a serious estimate.

This is probably the valuable output of using a service such as Estibot.

I totally agree with that, pricing a domain shall be done manually not automatically. It's a human-based thing not a computer-based one.
