Just a question on a value placed on a domain by Estibot.com . Here is teh domain evaluation value:

http://EstiBot.com Domain Appraisal : USD 5,300

Of course, I know you can't say "Oh my domain is worth $5,300!". What percentage of this amount do you think you could pretty much guarantee you domain is worth? I am talking just in generic terms, no names mentioned, if this is possible?

The link doesn't show the appraisal, just estibot.com.

It wasn't meant to show the appraisal. I am just asking what do you think the value of an appraisal of $5,300 by Estibot is worth. For example, let's say generally 50%, 25%, 10%, or zero?

Maybe this can't be answered without having an actual name. I don't want to mention the name, but it is a LLL.?? . It had 3 offers before on Sedo, but I was able to register it, since it not a top extension.

Thanks
Frank

There is no way to ever completely appraise a name. Here are examples of how estibot is way off.

Fund.com sold for 10million
Estibot says its worth 100thousand

Tell.com sold for 400thousand
Estibot says its worth 93thousand

Action.com sold for 230thousand
Estibot says its worth 270thousand

Aftermarket.com sold for 125thousand
Estibot says its worth 20thousand

93.com sold for 75thousand
Estibot says its worth 130thousand

As you can see Estibot is usually all over the map. Appraisal sites are calculations of results that fit the same exact mold for every name.

The only thing that it will never be able to calculate into the price is, 2 bidders fighting for the same name. The name is only worth what you develop it for. If it is brandable and has really no meaning, like google and yahoo, then the name is only worth what they make it into.

Thanks Jeremy for your examples.

There is no such thing as an accurate appraisal. The best you can do is take the median of as many of them as you can. Estibot imho is a good tool and the best automatted appraiser you can get.

Personally, I believe Estibot to be a GREAT tool! Just not for the appraisal/dollar amount aspect. I use to for the PageRank checker, # google results, overture, PPC info etc....

I wouldn't base my asking or buying price off an Estibot appraisal.... I have domains that appraise for $32,000 on Estibot that I would sell YOU for $25...... PM me if interested. Point being I wouldnt based anythign off the dollar appraisal but use it for its other tools.

Estibot is probably the best appraisal tool out there but it's still very much a crap shoot. I find whack appraisals there all the time.

I had sold domains on 5% - 10% of Estibot Evaluation.
I think most the domains go near it only

I would like to see that list. PM it to me. If estibot is giving it that much value maybe you aren't using the domain to it's fullest potentia.

Thanks, guys, for all of your answers. I wasn't trying to push, or knock Estibot. It seems Estibot is a good tool overall.

Thanks

I agree. 5-10% is about right - unless there are obvious problems (like word order) that estibot isn't seeing. I think estibot values tend to be high, maybe because of some high-end outliers (tho I'm guessing Esa accounts for that).

I second that. Most if not pretty much all the time, I dont' even use estibot for the appraisal but for all the other information it provides. It is a very nice tool. If I want a real appraisal I just use the appraisal section right here at namepros. If your name sucks, people will have no problem letting you know :hehe:

Estibot rules, but you have to learn how to take it for what its worth. I find stuff on there all the time that is still available over the $1000 mark, and yet my friends page is a pr4 with 5800 backlinks, and its only worth $390. Just learn the rules and be the judge yourself.
