Can anyone tell me - if i am finding names that are available and have a decent value at estibot.com - some are $100 up to $450.

I was told that estibot.com was pretty good, is that true?

Should I buy these names - will they sell for even half of estibot (on average)

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have just recently discovered estibot, and, had I known it before, I would have spared myself the agony of registering junk domains which esteemed appraisers here have been dumping into the reg fee bin. I think estibot is a wonderful tool and covers most angles.

It also guarantees you a valuation as opposed to posting here as I have come to see a trend here: people evaluate domains of those they know; or those they consider as experts. The rest are just plain ignored and given a one liner without explanation: reg fee.

For instance, after checking url-http.com at estibot and found it had a valuation of $730, I regged it. It has impressive overture and google citations. So far no one here has bothered to appraise it.

The other useful resource for finding value domains is htttp://www.nameboy.com. With these two tools, you will hardly need anyone to appraise your domains here!

I see a name worth 7,000US$ does It mean I should get it and resell it at even 1,000US$. No you do not get it, Estibot is good for some purposes:

Quick Traffic info, Paglinks, Search popularity, wordtracker
Overture

These are precious tools that appraiser needs, but I would not rely on the overall estimated value though.

I notice that Estibot may over estimate a domain name with a hyphen but using rich keywords and a poor extensions ~ for example.

However, It is still good to use Estibot if you want a register a domain and do not to get the typical worthless domain. Simply if you put the domain in estibot and it comes with low or poor google frequency plus no wordtracker / ovt ..then just do not go for it. You will see times when every check is low or zero but estibot still saying $XXX+

In most cases, no they won't. In many cases though, if you get them at regfee, you could at least sell them for a small profit.

If I look back on names that I sold on ebay for a profit, most of the ones that did well (from two to six times regfee), had good estibot appraisals. Again, these are small profits, and nothing close to the estibot values, but they can add up.

On the other hand I sold names on ebay that didn't even cover the regfee but had high estibot values.

So I think estibot could help, but you would still need to consider your market. For example, the more I sell names on ebay, the more feel I can get for what will do well. Whereas selling names on a domain forum, might be a different animal altogether.

If you are looking for big scores, i.e. hand-regging names and selling them for $100+, then I wouldn't rely too much on estibot.

estibot is a good tool, but estibot has this advice in large bold print:

"EstiBot is in BETA. Valuations may change!
Do not make a purchase or sale decision based on this appraisal"

Use it as one tool to help you decide, but not the only one.

Estibot and all automated appraisal services are pointless and useless IMO.

Domaining is simple. A domain is worth precisely what anyone is prepared to pay for it. No more, no less. You got 100 domains at Afternic with no bids? You have a worthless portfolio. Someone buys brgrrrem.org for $55 - guess what, brgrrrem.org was worth $55.

It really ain't rocket science.

If EstiNot appraises your domain at $4,500 and it doesn't sell well....is it worth $4,500??? Now (like many here) you can kid yourselves that it IS worth that but you 'just ain't found the right end user yet' (yep, that old chestnut is a popular one). Or alternatively, maybe it ain't worth what the bot says and the reason it hasn't sold is because it's not very good. Yes, really! That is a possibility.

Why am I so anti automated appraisals? All it does is make people with bad domains feel better about them. This in turn encourages them to go out and waste more money on bad regs. I really don't like to see people waste money. Unfortunately, it takes alot to prize a domainer away from his vanity (which might explain why I get so much abuse for simply telling it like it is and actually trying to help dudes out with a bit of honest, homespun truth!). :(

If anyone needs an automated appraisal on a domain, they should find another hobby IMO.

Just to conclude:

Some random Estinot appraisals I just did...

Melbourne.com - Estinot says 130K - sold for 700K (oh well, only 570K out)

WeldingRobots.com - Estinot says 20k - sold for 50K (oh well, only 30K out)

Hotel.mobi - Esti 5.5K - sold for 46K (40K out....oh well)

nhainc.com - Esti 80 (eighty dollars) - sold for 2.5K (well not so far out at least)

In fact, I just did loads more and they were all out apart from Brisbane.com which was spot on (well done!). Some did get closer than others. If anyone would like me to post further comparison examples I would be happy to do so or you go to DN journal look up some recent sales and play the game yourself.

This is just the sort of random game you are playing when you enter your domain in the box for an automated appraisal.

Just PM me, I will give you a much more accurate appraisal.

Or go list your domain straight to SEDO and forget appraisals :)

I love estibot - for entertainment. :) Other than that, I don't put much stock in it.

There's no reason to insult estibot as the owner has put in countless hrs of work into this site/program. I use it for data collection, but do not base the prices it gives me for the domains I am selling.

Estibot is a tool - it uses a set formula to determine a potential value. In a market with such high fluctuations, you need to make sure you use estibot in conjunction with other tools as well. However, there is a better rule in place. If Estibot thinks the domain is worth less than $1k - check all your stats and ask around. If Estibot believes the domain is worth more than $1k - it probably has some value.

But bare in mind - these are estimates. You need to understand the domain market and why domain names sell in general, before you can truely understand how to appraise and value domain names.

Estibot is a nice tool - but without experience and understanding - Tools are useless.... Please make sure you do your homework as well.
