hi all , i am selling a domain thru escrow.com which is ok but the buyer wants a 6 day inspection period for the domain which find a bit odd .

so basicly after the domain is put in the buyers name he is looking to view the domain for 6 days and then if he likes it i get payed .

if not he cops the fee and i get my domain back .

anyone with thoughts on the above !

thanks .

a long inspection period on domains is usually asked so as to check about traffic (or revenue) ... usually inspection is just 1 day ...

if a buyer holds a domain for many days without having paid for it , imo it could increase the possibilities for buyer's remorse ...

but if you actually want to continue with the sale you might as well accept the buyer's request and set the inspection period to 6 days (traffic domain or not) ... just make sure you set for the buyer to pay the fees so that you don't get charged if he changes his mind ... also , make sure you log in to escrow.com to verify that the funds are in the escrow account , so as to avoid a possible fake-escrow-email scam ...

I generally set mine to 1 day inspection period, the reason someone may request a 6 day inspection period is if you are selling the domain based on a claim of a certain parking income revenue, so the question is did you state it makes X amount of parking income per month? If the domain makes $100 a day parked and you let him have it for 6 days and then he cancels the deal you just lost $600, so the question is are you selling this based on your claim of parking revenue which would make 6 days understandable, buyer may also wish to park it on his own server to see where traffic is coming from before purchasing if he is buying it as a lead generator to redirect to his existing site , be smarter to arrange a private test before entering escrow or parking it at sedo or namedrive which will show public stats or revenue the buyer can confirm before entering the escrow arrangement, not enough information to go on but parking income claim or lead generation stats would be 2 guesses as to why someone would request this.

I usually use the default. However, if it's a business, they may need that many days if it falls on a weekend or holiday, or if it has to be approved my someone in management. I'd ask why they need 6 days first, but there could be a legit reason. I have given 7 days before with no problem. Escrow.com keeps the money, so if they do run, you still get your money, just a few days later.

the domain is parked at sedo.com so he can see all the stats etc

thanks for the replys .

remember the buyer still pays the escrow fees, so there is penalty if he backs out.

For a domain based on traffic/revenue, it's understandable (although 6 days is a bit much). For a domain based on just the name itself, don't do it. The MINIMUM inspection period for a domain based on just it's name.
