Microsoft has advised Mac users of Internet Explorer (IE) to switch to rival browsers such as Apple's Safari.

The advice came as the software giant formally announced the end of IE for Apple Macs...
Never thought Microsoft would advise users to download alternative browsers.

Indeed... but OTOH, most Apple users I know had already made Safari the defacto standard for browsing on the Mac platform. Still a surprising move by MS to move out of the Apple space... (for now.)

thats funny i recall microsoft paying 100 mil or some ridiculous sum of money to apple for them to pre install IE on mac :P

i cant see any mac user using IE more than Safari given most mac users are... how could i put this... "passionate" about apple/mac. i am one but i dont have a mac yet. hoping to get one of the new laptops with widescreen and merom dual core low watt 64 bit bla bla bla.

I like the "for now" part ;)

Not really a suprising move IMHO - it's a loss in that market because of the mindset of Apple users so why not just concentrate on something else and spend the capital elsewhere.

yeah Safari much interesting browser then IE on Macs.
Thats the point why they lose markets with IE.
IE best for MS definitely.
PS: MS 0=;;;;> Mac

I'm surprised... I always thought that whenever one of Microsoft products was ailing, the company's strategy was to simply pump more and more money into it until it became viable again. Kind of surprised Microsoft could bring itself to give up on anything.

Ah well, R.I.P.
