HELP!

I did try paying for a featured listing and a category listing a couple months back and still not a single offer.

I have some good domains but nothing is happening. How do you get noticed on Auctions?

What works for you?

What is the secret to using an auction house?

Can you list some of these good domains you speak of and what you believe makes them worthy of offers' bids?

FYI, it was months before I received my first offer on Sedo, but I'm hit with about an offer a week now that I'm magnitudes more careful about choosing which domains to lap up.

Also - I should add, 60 domains is not a very large portfolio. Folks who receive Sedo offers regularly usually own 1K+ domains.

Are you sure your domains are so good ? Everybody's got good domains ;)
Maybe they are good but there is little demand for them.
Nonetheless it can take months and even years before you receive an offer. Patience is key in the business.
If you want money for your names, don't sit and wait. Be proactive and reach out to end users.

I would also say that featured listings are a waste of time and money most of the time.

I think I've said this at least 100 times in this forum: Domains are speculative. Sure, you think you have good domains. What does that mean? 3 words: jack-s*it nothing. The question is NEVER if you think your domans are good but rather, if buyers think they are. And even if they do, you might not find anyone in the market. I have BareButt.net that I like but is it good? Eh, doesn't matter what I think since I'm the owner, not the buyer. If you have domains that fail to get offers at SEDO, then they might not be as good as you thought at first.

Check out the domains in the link, in my sig. Some look good, some don't They've never gotten any offers at SEDO (save for 1, I think) so I'm guessing my portfolio isn't all that great.

BTW List your domains with asking prices. NEVER list them without an asking price. Buyers won't be too inclined to make you an offer if they have no idea what ballpark figure you're expecting And don't make your price too high, for obvious reasons.

Good is relative. What you feel is good is not for the next person. Try to advertise you names here and if someone is interesed they will make an offer at Sedo. Also check PushToAuction.com.

So basically the online auction houses, like SEDO, are useless unless you spike someones interest from another source, like NamePros.com or an email/call to an end user.

Maybe I've worded my question wrong or maybe I'm missing the point here (please correct me if I am) but so far what I'm getting out of all the responses is that SEDO (or any auction house) is really only effective for brokering a deal made between 2 individuals or businesses?

When I first listed with SEDO and first heard about Domain auctions - I was under the impression that a good (lets define good as attractive to end users & domainers) domain listed at auction can get attention / offers.

What I've learnt is that selling a domain, even a "good" domain needs more than a listing. So just like developing a site, you need to point people at your domain as often as possible and put alot of work in it.

I'm about to start my first end user campaign and I'm also getting ready to list my favourite domains on NamePros.com and maybe other domaining communities.

I'm still new to all of this, so I've been reluctant to just throw out my names on the forum. Once I read a little more and see a few more examples, I'll absoloutly post them. Since I'm the topic, does any one have any warnings related to posting my domains on a forum? (I was given good advice to keep the name.com seperated by ? or ( to keep search engine crawlers from hitting appraisal or private threads). Does anyone have good solid forum posting advice?

I'm also expecting to do a blog / mini site with domains I have for sale listed. Mostly as a place to direct people. I've seen a few people doing this. How is it working for you?

I also took some great advice from people on NamePros and took out a POBOX right before removing the privacy feature on my domains. I haven't received any WHOIS generated offers BUT I didn't expect it over night.

Anyway this is turning into a mega loaded post.

In summary, I was originally looking to find out how I can get extra attention at auction through specific actions but what I'm getting out of all this is that I need to reach out to end users and other domains, if I expect to get any interest at auction. Is that right?

I'll put further emphasis on the need to promote your domains. Here is what I've learned from my experiences.

I started a mailing list over 3 years ago and it's steadily grown to approximately 1600 subscribers. I'd guess that only 300 of those subscribers actually read the mailings. I started a domaining blog about 18 months ago. The blog averages about 220 visitors a day. I use both of these items as a means to promote and advertise my domain listings at SnapNames.com.

I'll list 100 "good" keyword domain names in a 10 day auction at SnapNames.com and then promote those listing through my blog and email newsletter. Usually 20% of them will sell at an average price of $50. As a test, I once listed the same type of domains and didn't promote them at all. 1 domain sold at it's opening bid price of $29. The results show that listings without promotion will go unnoticed.

If I listed the same 100 domains at Sedo and didn't promote them at all, I'd be willing to bet that I'd receive 2, maybe 3 bids over the course of an entire year. My sedo sales are few and far between. I will say Sedo sales generally sell for higher amounts since end users are more predominant on Sedo than on SnapNames.

Building a mailing list and sales site are no easy task but the sooner you get started, the sooner it''ll be done. Coincidentally, the first person to ever join my mailing list posted earlier on this thread.
