Economic Terrorism

You know, with the big bankrolls some of the terrorist organizations have.. if they really want to hurt "us", why not use economic terrorism? Geez, all they'd have to do is stop the heroin or other drug shipments for a bit rather than send them over and they'd have both the addicts and the health industries on the run, or pay people in the slave labor clothing industry factories NOT to work and they'd really have us where it hurts (Walmart would have to go out of business).. and more quickly too... no more having to recruit suicide bombers.

the fact is these people who kill themselfs are so small minded, they think they know it all and what they are doing is right, hence 99.5+% of the world is not with them!

Economical terrorism can't work, because the heroin/hash etc. is mostly coming from afghanistan, those people who plant the stuff in there are pretty pro western, and they make a hell of alot of money producing the stuff.

Their main market is uk and usa, but think about it, can you imagine those addicts not having drugs, i think the effects are far more devistating than a suicide bomber. I am not sure about usa but in uk i personally among my friends know about 10 people min who smoke hash, they may not be addicts but they look on the road to become one....

The cheap labour argument is intresting, the fact is these org's get 99% of their money from anonymous donors, most of the times these are COUNTRIES rather than people, i am aware of usa even supporting a few of these about 5-6 years ago!
Most of the cheap labour is done in africa and china, i dont think if they are going to pay mass numbers of people (we are talking about millions) not to work for usa / uk companies, while all they need to do is get a suicide bomber to kill himself along with innocent people its just and unfortunate fact!

The very sad thing is all this is taken from the palistinian methods, but people forget the palistinian / israely situation is like a warzone type of problem, thats why you get people blowing themselfs up there as a last method of action, but i honestly can't find 1 bit of understanding why others do it, and why other actually have sympathy twards these bombers who just blow themselfs up like in london for no reasone at all! I really cant understand what drives them to it...

The best way to stop terrorism at this moment is to fix the palistinian and iraq situation ASAP, then i honestly cant see a reasone why anyone would be angry any more, and i would love to see usa spending abit more money in afghanistan too

They are already working on forms of economic terrorism.

The bombings in Bali and more recently in Egypt are not in tourist areas just because they want to kill tourists.
Egypt has a six billion dollar tourism industry. These attacks can potentially cost tens of millions of dollars in lost revenue.

Agreed. They've already begun economic terrorism - we saw it as early as 1993 with the first bombing at the WTC. When these groups strike, they strike on multiple levels. Obviously the loss of life is important to them but look at the targets. All of the offices at the WTC Towers, the trains in Madrid, the buses and tubes of England, tourism sites in Egypt and Israel (amongst others). These attacks are designed to strike the economy as well as take lives.

The problem with pure economic terrorism without loss of life is that it loses it's edge. They want something...tangible...if you will. Something that they can both cause and control at will. Something that they can use the media to further exploit.

Also, they have a lot of money - there's no doubt about that but there are factories all over the world. Paying the workers for instance would cost incredible amounts because there are so many places in the world where cheap (and or slave) labor is found.

People shouldn't forget the 6 billion dollars given to the airlines for security and the billions of dollars, much of which has been squandered, given to small communities, by the department of homeland security, that have about as much chance of a terrorist attack as they do of breaking off the continent and floating out to sea.

This is definitely about economic terrorism.

Bin Laden once said that his goal was to bankrupt America.
He said that it was like a game of wack-a-mole. Every time al quaeda attacked a new location the US would spend millions of dollars sending troops and arms to that location. Then they would just blow up something in a different location.
