Hi guys,

I messaged a seller on ebay and asked if they had a BIN price. They named a price way too high so I simply placed a bid on the auction and said no thanks to BIN.

The seller then told me they were ending the auction as it was not bringing the price they wanted.

Are they allowed to end an auction after bids have been placed? Surely that defeats the whole point of an "auction"?

Yes they can end it early if there are more than 12 hours remaining.

Be weary of "auctions" from people not serious on selling but just testing the waters to see what interest there is.

I have got some good bargains on eBay and I have sold some for quite good price as well. I have also noticed that some sellers add a note that they may end the auction early as the domain is advertised somewhere else. But to close the auction because the price is not high enough is not really a good strategy as the domains I have sold on eBay did receive the high bids in the final seconds of the action. You need to take the risk to find out really.

People can cancel auctions but it ain't ethical.

They can do whatever they want.
What are you going to do about it or any one as a matter of fact realistically?
That's the way it goes.

Ebay has to allow ending auctions early, because of varying reasons the item may not be available. A person could be selling a vase and it broke or got lost before the auction ended. The seller probably only has to tell ebay "the item no longer available" But I would think "The interest/bid were not high enough" would not be a valid ebay reason. I guess you can complain, but your really not going to get anything from it.(and at least the seller told you the truth) I believe the seller has to cancel your bid before canceling the action. If they dont cancel the bid you win.
