eBay sellers to be banned from criticizing buyers
Posted by Elinor Mills
In a move to curtail retaliation by vengeful sellers in its feedback system, eBay plans to prohibit sellers from posting negative feedback about their customers.

Beginning in May, sellers will not be able to leave negative or even neutral comments about their customers, only positive feedback, said spokesman Usher Lieberman.

(Credit: eBay)Sellers are crying foul, saying the policy change isn't fair.

But Lieberman says some sellers have been abusing the system, retaliating against customers who leave them negative feedback. And that has left many buyers afraid to leave honest comments, or even use the site, period, he says.

"The No. 1 reason buyers cited for decreasing or ceasing their activity on eBay was negative unwarranted retaliatory feedback they received from sellers," Lieberman says. "There has been a four-fold increase in this over the last several years. It's cited as a bigger problem than even not receiving shipment."

Meanwhile, eBay is offering more solutions to protect sellers when customers don't pay.

The move is the latest in a series of changes that involves how search results on the site will be displayed and recently announced fees for listing items.

I guess another fun feature for the deadbeat or ahole buyers. I am sure this will help get eBay more sellers.

Retaliatory feedback is a grim reality for both buyers and sellers, but its a fact of life. If you cut out the possibility for sellers to leave feedback at all, than whats the point of a feedback system?

wo0t. Now buyers can hold sellers hostage and demand unreasonable. Waiting for google or yahoo to come up with some ebay competition. They would take over the market with the way ebay is going. HELLO EBAY, SELLERS ARE YOUR CUSTOMERS. THEY PAY YOUR BILLS. Thanks eBay. Your the best

How about buyers will not have the opportunity to leave a neg feedback because they can't: the script won't allow it until both buyer and seller communicate and it is documented, once both parties click on a confirm button. If the seller had a return policy on his/her listings, and the buyer is not satisfied then the seller is obliged to honor it. If the seller has no return policy, then it is the buyers choice to deal with him/her or not. Wouldn't that be fair? If a package is late, if they don't like the wrapping ect.. ect.. you get a NEG, after awhile it will seem that no seller on ebay is trustworthy, The whole idea will collapse. Perhaps Ebay (it seems ever since they hired that lady) needs to stop being greedy (raising prices on the edge of a recession while at the same time put a knife in the back of the little man) and build a better arbitration system, with humans involved for neg feedback and proof with documentation. Perhaps something like that would cut back on feedback abuse.

Well ebay with no sellers = no ebay.

They need to get that into their dense heads.

But then I guess that would be too much for them to understand...

I guess you'll see alot of positives like this:

POSITIVE FEEDBACK RATING
I can't leave a negative, and this is as "positive" as it's going to be!
I spend my time and money as a seller and this deadbeat
has the nerve to bid on my item and win, then not contact me about the item he bid on and won! Or pay for the item he bid on and won! But please, don't take my word for it, let him win one of your auctions!
