For domains with intristic value:
ie. traffic names
short names (3 letter com, 2 letter com, etc.)
and also some very brandable names.
Ie. WebSpace.com
Ebay is good...
But for smaller, "lucky sale" names, no.
The "lucky sale" names range in value from $0-$150 and generally much lower.
It is a marketplace for "domain speculators" with good exposure from ebay.
These ebay buyers are people looking to buy domains in GENERAL, not actually looking to buy a certain type, therefore they are speculating...
When you refer to domain values, many names for sale on the forums here and ebay have little value. Domains that don't fit into the categories mentioned above are like lottery tickets in the sense that you could just get lucky with a big sale ie. SpamZilla.com for $35,000 or something, but is it really worth that? nope. Not even 1% of that.
By the way, in regards to the domainstate "yuck" comment, you are very wrong. The DomainState admins have great insight into to domain names and are very helpful people. I'm sure the namepros admins here believe in the exact same principles as domainstate, but domainstate admins are happy to tell it as it is. Perhaps their appraisals weren't what you wanted to hear but they were accurate domain speculator appraisals.
