howdy,

maybe this already is possible but I haven't been able to figure out how so figured I would mention it in case 1) others agree it would be a nice change 2) it already is possible on NP & someone else already knows how to do it and can clarify...

basically, one thing that annoys me is when I post a sales thread and want to include all the important info, such as registrar, creation date, expiration date and price.... if I copy and paste from a CSV file the columns lose their widths and everything gets jumbled and I have to still go in and manually separate data with spaces and ___ or whatever. In my opinion it is not only an eyesore but seems like it should be an easy fix. The closest I have come to maintaining the columns is by wrapping
Code:
tags around the info but that is also not the "prettiest". On other forums, for examle dnf, you can copy/paste from a spreadsheet into a post and the data keeps the column formatting..... MUCH easier, and cleaner looking, in my opinion.

So, IS there already a way to do this here and I have just overlooked it or is it currently not an option but (hopefully an easy) one that could be implemented?

thanks,

sp

hmm... maybe i am the only one that thinks being able to retain csv formatting would be great in sales threads. i am fine leaving well enough alone then, and just using code tags, if no one else chimes in wanting it as well.

I am not sure if it can be done, but this is definitely something that I would like to see implemented. Having to reformat every time you paste CSV data is a pain in the neck.

thanks for chiming in! well... it CAN be done, and currently is on dnf.... that is when i really saw how "primitive"/painstaking putting info in columns is here.... having info like this:

domain
registered
expires
registrar
price

makes for a LONGGGGGG list if a lot of domains. Being able to put it all neatly in columns would be much more navigable and easy on the eyes imo....

Just to touch base on this after looking into the option. It appears that to allow Tables would require that we enable HTML in public posts. According to VBulletin and other sources Enabling HTML in posts is a security risk. The bellow is the common warning seen when researching this option in VB communities:

If you activate HTML in vBulletin, you are compromising the security of your forum. If you choose to do this, it should only be in sub-forums restricted to administrators or a limited group of trusted users. You should never enable HTML posting in public sub-forums.

With the above mentioned, it would appear it's not in the best security interests of the community to enable the html option. I will look around a bit more and see if there's any other solutions that would be safe and easy to implement, but don't cross your fingers, it may require hiring a custom php / mysl coder to script. And if that's the case there's other aspects and possible conflicts to consider.
