so you think if I hold on to it a few more years it wont drop in value?

Dropcatch.com is a great name for sure.

It'll be worth a lot once you develop it and market it successfully.

Maybe you can talk to the marketing team of big drop catchers to see if they like to acquire the domain for a fee.

The problem with a drop catching service is the financial resources needed to build a signifigant one and the contracts the registrars have already made. For instance, many registrars have deals worked out with larger drop catch services to auction their domain names. Names at Network Solutions, automatically go to Snap - names at Enom go to Club Drop.

If someone wanted to build a drop catching service today, you would have to go out and "buy" atleast a dozen registrars (I believe Enom and Snap have 30 each?) These are 10k investments, each. Now consider what names are going to be available for catching? Your limiting yourself to a small % of domain names. (because Netsol, Enom, Godaddy, Tucows domains are not going to be catchable by you)...

With all that going against you, how many suiters are you going to find to build a service on this domain name? I dont think enough to justify an xx,xxx asking price....

I think you shouldve worked out a deal with the last bidders - but thats just my 2 cents.

Please someone correct me if Im wrong on any of these points.

I don't understand what you guys mean by xxxx developed?

If this domain is developed into a successful drop catching service it would be worth millions along with the business obviously.

I would say Low $xx,xxx, excellent name!

Without develoment i'd say this name is worth mid to high XXX. If I were you I would develop it first, and then sell it.

Spade, you bring up some interesting points. However it wouldn't be impossible. Contracts are not eternal, and when renewal time comes around for those contracts, registrars will be more than happy to have 2 or more suitors... Obviously anyone getting into this would need deep deep pockets, but there are already some businesses out there who might benefit from branching out... And the fact that someone would need deep pockets to pull off something like this only increases the value of this domain.

Domaining will become more mainstream over the years. And there will be some big businesses looking to invest. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but yeah.. Could possibly be a very nice payoff if held long enough.

We also have to consider the possibility of rebranding by an already existing major player... I don't think Pool will be doing that anytime soon... But SnapNames, TDNAM, ClubDrop, etc... Personally I think they would all benefit from switching to the DropCatch brand. It just sounds catchier :)

Personally if I owned this, I wouldn't sell for less than $xx,xxx, and im dirt poor, so thats saying something :)

As for other people's comments about development... Development is irrelevant. This is the premium .com for this industry IMO. Anyone who buys this is only going to scrap the development you've done and implement their own system.

by no means am I questioning value on this domain name. It is a great name with plenty of value.

The issue is how valueable is it? why must a drop catch service use this name vs any other?

my logic is that this name probably doesn't get much type in traffic. thus begging the question what bennefit is gained by using this name vs any other "drop" keyword name?

is there a huge search on SE's that make this name important for SEO?

I like this name a lot, but think a new company could find a nice brandable name for low x,xxx that would be just as good if not better....

I think the benefit of owning a premium domain in some instances surpasses the value that mere SEO and traffic brings, especially in niche markets. Dont get me wrong, those are both very very valuable. But establishing your company under a brand name that is instantly recognized industry-wide, sort of lends a level of legitimacy and authority that you don't even have to earn, if that makes sense. Companies spend many years and tons of money establishing their brands in the eyes of their customers. So essentially, if nothing else, the value of the domain would be based on the sheer savings from not having to devote finances and resources to brand building.

I guess maybe its a personal preference. You could spend big money up front and acquire a brand that is already known and respected, so to speak. Or you can build a brand from the ground up. Far enough into the game I imagine the cost and benefits of both would probably level out. But in this particular instance, where competition is so fierce and the odds are against a newcomer, I think anything that will help establish legitimacy in the eyes of the customers, as well as prospective business partners (registrars) will go a very long way. As they say, go big or go home :)

DITTO ..To Spades and sharon tucci's post aswell

To begin the service, It takes "Large" Funding, And a minimum of 4 hours a day to run it,That is a minimum, The competetion is fierce aswell, But the possiblitly of developing it into a nice domain name resource site is a more realistic way to go,And then plan a large development for it, pertaining to the drop industry, This may draw an end user to the name aswell imo. I don't see it getting x,xxx as is imo, More in the xxx to some one who really wants it at he moment, Otherwise i would estimate a sale in the high xx for it, as it is right now.
